Quandary E vs S500
Published (2009-11-23 07:31:00)
I would think that a major concern is the past service history. MB cars are pretty expensive to get fixed when they are out of warranty. And the reliability of the V8 engine would depend upon what the previous owners did to care for the car. As an aside having the 4Matic system would provide superior all weather traction but once the situation gets too bad outside you don't have to worry about how you're doing you have to worry about...

I believe the flipping panel is one assembly, therefore one part number. Since over 1 million of the W211 was sold since 2003, of which 350,000 in the USA, some scrapyards must have ample supplies of this part. Otherwise Auto Parts - Parts.com, For Every Part of Your Life must have it, but you have to dig quite a bit.

It's a write off, no insurance company will fix that.
IF the roof line has a single wrinkle the safety cage is compromized and cannot be repaired.
Look for a new car.

It's engaging the brakes.
You don't even have to use the lever to decelerate, you can accomplish the same by acclerating past the set speed and then removing foot from accelerator.
Al night in low light conditions you can see the brake lights.

I recently purchased a 2007 E350 4 matic with sport package following a quest similar to yours. I quickly discarded the Audi because I found it too bland and its reliablity is so so. I really had to choose between the BMW 530xi and E3504M. The BMWs were generally cheaper than the MB.
The BMW has a better drivetrain feel (engine, shifting), but this was its sole advantage (along with lower ...

I just got an Autoenginuity package. It has the option for the basic ECU
reading and clearing, but also has the option for an enhanced interface.
Just got mine, with the enhanced, but haven't used it yet. Check their
website for info and pricing.

I'd say that the panel is defective.
Every symptom that you've mentionned could be created by other failures than the panel. But the panel opening feature must be totally internal, i.e. it does not interface to the SAM or other devices on CAN bus. So if it has power, it must be failed.

Did you check BOTH batteries? There are 2 batteries in the car. One in the trunk and one in the engine compartment passengers side underneath the cabin filter. You may try searching to see how to replace the auxiliary battery. There have been several conversations on this topic in the past with vendors you may use to pick up another battery.
I've never heard of the auxiliary battery not ...

hard to judge off your post, but I'd say the steering should not have felt heavier. This could indicate a dying power steering pump or low level. Also try to get it under 20K. Good luck.

Seldom will a dealer replace the fluid when they change the pads and rotor
sets. Anytime I replace a brake system component I flush the brake fluid to
insure not only cleanliness but to eliminate the chance that any old fluid
was pushed back up into the precision ABS units valve mechanisms.
