Has the
wiring harness been changed? since the M104 uses one coil to fire 2 cyls, then u should see 2 cyls miss fire if a coil is shot. so it might be an injector not getting the fire signal due to cracked wiring harness.
second thing to check are the plugs, check if any show signs of oiling.
thirdly is the car losing coolant over a period of time? i had my AMG use 1l of coolant ...

Ahhh I saw that on CL as well. Glad it went to a good home!! I was considering it but it would have been a trek from CT. Very good price indeed...looks like a great project car
