Is there supposed to be any sort of buffer/bumper between the closed front grille and paintwork behind it? I see 4 holes in the sheet metal behind however photos of other cars show nothing there. Now I'm wondering if there's supposed to be something on the backside of the grille. Thanks!

Hiya, first post. just drove my 'new to me' '79 down from nova scotia to NYC. a dream come true. I wanted to treat it to a lube job down here but when i took it to a mechanic and they hoisted it, they said everything was cased/sealed and they couldn't do a lube job. (I convinced them to keep it up for a minute and I ran around with the WD40 and did what i could). i had read on this ...

Hi, I've been weighing this question up for a long time, and am finally getting close to a decision. I'm looking at buying an old Benz as a daily driver. Not doing huge milage or anything, but need something to reliably get me there and back. I'm not expecting completely trouble or cost free motoring - if I was, I'd buy a two year old Japanese car. So, please avoid the comments along the ...

Hi! We just purchased a 1969 280sl and had a question about the RPM's. The transmission shifts smoothly, however when on the freeway it seems to not engage 4th gear? At 70 mph the RPM's are around 4000. Seems like it should cruise at a lower RPM range? Thoughts? Cheers

Hi all, I am brand new to the forum and am looking for some advice on a W123 300D non-turbo. I have driven a 1978 with 79K miles ( and it looked it) but I was surprised at how loose the suspension feels. What do people do to tighten up the overall suspension and what am I looking at in parts/labor? I do some work myself so that is an option. I have yet to drive a turbo and am now thinking...

A group 49 battery is standard for that car. A red top Optima works fine (even for a 6.9) even though the battery swims in the battery tray space.

Not a problem! I'll start the process tomorrow. I drove that damned beast from San Diego to Denver yesterday. Per my Garmin, the route I took was 1300 miles. That car got 10 mpg and gobbled down 5 quarts of oil. Still though, the most comfortable, quiet easy drive I've done, hands down. On long trips, my BMW makes my lower back grumble all day, but not the Benz.
