Well a interview with a Diablo3 dev or the writer of the books ( I dont remember who ) said that some people from the books would be major baddies in Diablo3 The story lines do tie in to the diablo games as for who some people are like tyreal, where the prime evils come from, certain items who they are named after.. class backgrounds..

At least Bnet2.0 is going to have a much better system for communication. You will be able to chat with friends that may be playing another game entirely. I think it's likely there will be a clan system for Diablo3 more involved than creating a new characters name with a "tag" and i imagine there would be a sort of guild chat similar to how it works in WoW. I am sure Blizzard will have all of this covered in the achievement system and thus, we wouldn't need the redundancy. As others have already stated this kind of thing isn't a good idea for the Diablo Universe. Maybe if we were playing Ultima Online or something. All I know is I love Septictank.

Last I heard she was coming "soon" and that was shortly after Blizzcon. I certainly hope we get an info-filled blizzcast before my birthday on January 29th.
