I've never had that experience with either my male or my female. as long as it is not feeding time, I cant reach in and grab them with no issues. My female has never even as much as hissed at me. She's very inquisitive. Its te male that gets really weird when he has food in his tank like "It's Mine", "Dont even think of taking it", "leave it alone" as he snaps at the glass...

Dumeril's question
Published (2009-12-30 12:23:00)
My adult dum I got had bad sheds from the previous owner. But just by using a few inches of aspen and sometimes cypress, no overhead lights, just a heat pad, and using plastic hides that hold in humidity well, I've never had a bad shed. Same for my 08 male dum I got last year. Be sure to get a digital temp and humidity gauge. And when they start to go into shed, up the humidity to at least 60.

Great looking collection! I like that all but that Argentine Salmon is hot. I love her colors. Your double het female also has some great colors, and will make some killer sunglows when bred to your albino.

GREAT Photos, thank you so much for posting these. I am in the process of deciding between a Dumeril's or an Argentine Boa. I love them both, but have been told that the Dumeril's have better temperament. What do you think? Do you know much about Argies? Curious to know, thanks in advance.

It can be if you don't have good enough circulation. I made the mistake of covering to much opening on my visions and then had to go back and remove some because there was not enough circulation and I was seeing mold. Not something you want you animals to live in I don't think.

What is your humidity like in the enclosure? My guess is with the overhead lamp its way too low. Find a way to seal in the humidity and/or provide a humid hide. This can be as simple as a plastic container with a hole cut in it and a nice humidity holding substrate inside it. My Dum is prone to bad sheds if my humidity is even a little bit off, much moreso than most of my other snakes. Your ...

I think most people are likely going to recommend a 6ft enclosure for an adult female Dum. You're talking about a snake with the potential of reaching 8-9 feet... 48 would be very cramped for a fully grown adult female...36 would not be an option. Unless you are looking for another "temporary" size...I think you're looking at a 5-6ft enclosure, preferrably 6.

How do you plan to keep that water area clean? I recommend a big dish of water instead of something integral to the tank so that you can remove it, wash it, and change 100% of the water as often as you need to.
