Russian straight razors any good?

Nods. Well at any rate it still shaves me and it's still my best blade (works better for me than the double-edge, no cutting myself and less irritation, even ATG). I can't get my cheeks to pull tight though.

Three shaves could be considered a bit short. You may want to keep an eye on your angles… near 90 degrees will dull a perfectly good edge in a few strokes. The whiskers will be coming at the edge sideways and will simply fold over that thin edge, and it is very difficult to strop to straighten the edge again. Do yourself a favor, send it out again to be reshaped, and when it’s time to shave again, shave with the blade flat...

Well...normally people don't pass them off as anything else so.... Its not exactly something we've had to worry about so far.
I wouldn't worry about it. Most unmarked razors turn out to be fantastic. Those that look like DA's, probably are DAs. But even then...nothing particularly wrong with them unless you pay too much.

Which reminds me of Straight Razor Safety Rule #1: Never shave commando-style with a straight razor.
I consider a shower towel wrapped around the waist to be the minimum acceptable safety equipment for all DE users making the transition to straights...

No idea. They turn up on the 'Bay once in a while. I wouldn't mind trying one, but they are usually pretty beat up.

Forgot to ask, if anyone knows much about the A.J Jordan and the OLF razors, haven't seen any references to them on here.

It's always hard to tell dates for sure. Manufacturers were always changing names and production facilities. Some companies would make razors for other companies under different names, etc. I'd recheck the dates you have for Greaves though- they produced until 1919 at least by some accounts. Yours looks at least mid-1800's to me. Regardless, guys do use late-1700's straights.

Honestly, it sounds like you've convinced yourself. It's not for everyone and how you shave means nothing at the end of the day if it doesn't work for you. You're right, it can be expensive (especialy if you're prone to collecting shiny things...), but doesn't have to be after the initial set up. But it does take some time and effort (practice) to get good enough at it that it's not really any ...

I have two straights that I really like: Dovo Renaissance, and 6/8 Dovo Special Tortoise. I really would choose them (and do) over my B&B Le Grelot Pink Ivory LE, which I guess I really should sell.

If we assume you razor was properly sharp to begin with and your shaving technique is good what does that leave us with? I would examine your stropping. Maybe too much pressure? Maybe too much rolling? Personally I don't do any rolling motion on leather. Just some x stropping.
