Shave stick questions
Published (2009-11-27 14:48:00)
ive got all three of the soaps you mentioned. Id go tabac, harris, taylors tabac is by far the easiest to lather up, and when youre traveling and dont have your best brushes, thats a good thing. Harris is great too, but its so expensive for a comparatively tiny stick. Taylors is also very good, but its glycerine based which I dont like.

What are you shaving with...

Used a soap I made up last night ("ugly soap"); milled some Van der Hagen Deluxe, a round of Krissy's #15 (tallow soap), and a small amount of TGQ's lavender soap together. Krissy's #15 is green. VDH Deluxe looks like a melted Barbie doll. The TGQ soap was brown-ish. The resulting milled soap looks absolutely wretched, but it produced a WONDERFUL lather. Yardley Shaving Soap
Published (2009-11-24 19:23:00)
There's a puck of tallow-first Pen's EF on the 'bay now. I'm selling my puck of tallow EF in the bowl as soon as I'm back in the States for Christmas. I'm hoping to get what I paid for it, but I don't know if that's realistic. I used it less than 6 times, and I have all the packaging (box). The bowl is one of the better examples I've seen. No imperfections. I used to wonder about Yardley until I saw...

Tallow soaps for sensitive skin...

I agree. The AOS (Art of Shaving) unscented shave soap has all the right ingredients for someone with sensitive skin and it's tallow based. I've used the MWF without any problem. However, the MWF should be noted to have lanolin. For someone with allergies to woollen fabrics (like me), it's worth noting.

I won't be home for a few days but I put my MWF in an empty container from Mama Bear Soaps. That is 3 1/4 inch diameter. The soap has a very small gap around the edges and is close to the top.

Tabac Shaving Soap Review!
Published (2009-11-27 18:44:00)
Tabac is wonderful stuff, the lather is so rich, and wonderful. I initially had written Tabac off, because I found the scent to be nauseating. I revisited again recently, and am starting to really like the scent.

No problem on skin, i would think it's in the soap to act as a antiseptic for the occasional weeper, also probably a common cause of waterspots and rust as it is an oxidizer. What have you read to cause concerns?

On top of that, there are better products in the same price range that don't stink, are slicker, and smell nicer... which is reason enough for me to stop using it

My Old Spice Mug (which looks near brand new, and was kindly PIFed to me by a very thoughtful member!! ) came in the mail yesterday.
A refill puck of Tabac now makes it's home there, and it fit perfectly in the mug, with no shaving/ modification to the puck required!! So perfect, that I think I would have a pretty difficult time in removing it.

How "rare" has Yardley become? Is this soap worthy of getting into the recent Penhaligons tallow soap bowl prices?...

I shaved with her final test batches, and they were awesome. I've got some shaving soaps of her best recipe coming my way. I'm sure they'll be awesome. Vinnie, she has some great products!
