If his brain function is nearly normal, why don't they hook him and and help him learn to control things with his thoughts? Goodness, a toy is market this year which does just that! That'd make an interesting Christmas present.

Actually, come to think of it, the Suez canal has an even better argument as a separation since it's a sea level canal.

I've recently met a crazy person who thinks that I should be able to do a hundred push-ups. I've tried to explain to this hobbit sized person that someone of my incredibly fit build is simply carrying too muscle weight to be expected to be able to do one hundred push-up, but she is completely impervious to reason and thinks that just because she can do an infinite number of push ups so should I...

Ohio State University did not raise tuition this year (though they find plenty of other ways to suck money out of my wallet). Hard to tell why they make the decisions they do. I think some schools try to attract better staff and "upgrade" their student bodies and raising costs is one to do both which also brings in more research dollars. They can afford to be more selective. OSU for example,...

You may have a short in your line. I'm no expert by any stretch (my father is the phone guy), but the ringer is triggered by your telco sending power to one of the pins. Power on, your phone rings. Power off, your phone doesn't. You didn't specify clearly, but you may be getting single rings due to intermittent capacitance, causing a single ring without anybody having attempted to call you at ...

that would suck. i read that book- in about 3 hours. i couldn't put it down. i was inspired to read it by this song and video that uses footage from that movie way back when.
i've always wondered if that had ever happened in real life.
now i wonder how this particular news story will be used and abused and twisted to fit the various agendas the next time a Terri Schiavo situation comes up...

Not only do I not know what you should do, I have the same situation. Perhaps we keep these things not for future reference, but because of nostalgia.

People spelling "loose" when they mean "lose." It's bad enough when I see it on the 'net, but somehow it seems worse when I see it in print media.

Yes but depending on what part of Canada you're from, you can get other types of dialects popping up. With you being from S'toon I'm sure you hear a lot of "not-even eh" "mNaaaaaaa, whatever" "mNaaaa, sick, Ehhhhhh". Of course you need to pepper in some expletives to get the authentic sound.
And don't forget to not use to much lip when when you say "over der eh".

It is interesting that the son showed no interest in speaking Klingon. Children given similar levels of exposure to a second language will normally become bilingual. Perhaps the father spoke Klingon really badly. Or maybe the language is not sufficiently rich to be perceived as a real language, even by a child. But children exposed only to a pidgin (an "incomplete" language) will learn it and, ...

Several medieval castles had smalled doors inset in the big portals, so the door in a door concept is definitely not new at the time of Newton.

What weird weather? The weather in Ohio hasn't been weird, other than slightly warmer than normal (though that's supposed to change by the end of the week). BBP, I think you are easily alarmed and are confusing normal variations in weather to something significant.

After Fletcher Christian got the Bounty to Pitcarin the island was essentially isolated with a few dozen people ever since. (See if you can find the book Serpent in Paradise for a modern update on the place). It's only about a square mile in extent. Few people, not terribly educated, cut off from the world. Like any bottleneck, I suspect evolution worked pretty fast.

Typical finger-pointing. Some one always has to be 'at fault' these days, regardless of the situation. It was NOAA's fault that the tornado touched down and destroyed these houses, it's NASA's fault that the asteroid crashed into this city, it's ACE's fault that you live in a flood plane and got flooded. Lets get some personal accountability. If you live in an area called Tornado Alley ...
