Baby Rice - what the deal?

Personally I think closer to 6 months is best. 3 or 4 months old is one thing but 6 weeks???

It's weird, the earliest I have ever heard of anyone weaning here is 5.5 months.

Yeah maybe. I wonder if the UK guidelines will ever change to 5-7 months. We seem to be behind the rest of Europe for most things, lol. Would be better. It's really nice to know other countries don't recommend you starting 'til later, I mean Freya doesn't eat at some days, and very little other days, so it's nice to know it's not really necessary yet. However many times I read the bible, it's nice to know...

Thanks hun! Mmmmm Malt loaf is my fave too! We won't get any pressies posted out here the postal service is shite and half of it goes missing. At least with Amazon they do send again if the stuff goes astray. We are back in the UK for a week though, so I will def get some stuff sent to pick up. LOL i have never seen anything like organic biscuits in the shops here. I could make some myself though

i think i might go with that approach too faille. i think i'll prob give Kian anything apart from whole nuts (coz i can see y thats a chocking hazard...they're hardly suckable...they're pretty small and hard) and honey coz of the whole spors thing but other than that i think i'm gonna try everything else and see how it goes. i suspect alot of these 'rules' were put in place for babies being weaned earlier than 6...

Hello I started Izzy on rice at 4 months, and by 2 weeks later we were on to fruit and veg. She had been waking in the night for longer than could be explained by a growth spurt and yet couldn't get enough milk in the waking hours. She didn't have any issues from the rice, although she didn't sleep through even when on that (not until she was having porridge and a small meal later on) When she wakes crying..is she looking for...

Hmm I have never heard of giving a six week ol solids- I think the general rule of thumb is purely breast/formula for the first six months, some of the baby foods ( ready made rice/porridge etc ) says from "4 months" but I am still going to wait a bit longer before I start Milly on solids.

I only really have experience of my LO but when I tried him with baby rice he swallowed it straight away and wanted more, so it might be worth leaving it for a bit longer? It's recommended that you wait until 6 months now, although I did wean earlier than that. She might just be interested in your food but not ready to eat it herself yet x

Here we are told whole milk is ok as long as it's cooked in something, for example yogurts, cheese, foods that you add milk in during the cooking process. But they say not straight and not just mixed in cereal...though I've noticed in the UK they say it is ok to mix in cereal..so I guess your choice on that one For the most part they can have anything besides...

I don't know what the "right" answer is, but I give Violet toast near enough every day and she has 'can't believe it's not butter' or something like that. As long as it's not loaded with salt then it's fine? Babies should really have full fat dairy products anyway.
As for the eggs, I use the whole of the egg mixed with cows milk... I give her it how I have mine.
Not sure about the ...

Hi,
Archie is very easily distracted when eating, the dog, the tv, oh, you name it he's interested in it at meal times! So we just try to be more interesting than the surroundings, you know the type of thing "your SO clever" singing and talking to him and generally looking and acting daft! and the choo choo train spoon action is favoured by DH !!!!!! If any one could see us at meal times ...

I was really looking forward to doing BLW with Eddie. I went the puree route (mostly shop bought too ) with Poppy and she is now a terrible eater and suffers badly from constipation as she won't eat her fruit and veggies
Anyway, I thought BLW was brilliant and was happy to wait till 6 months before getting Eddie started on solids at all, but at 4 months he decided milk wasn't enough.

I can't make up my mind on how I should wean David, there must be advantages and disadvantages to both methods. Opinions and advice is very much appreciated, but please don't turn this into an argument.
I would like to wait until he is 6 months, but recently he's been staring at us eating, sticking his tongue out and if I eat with him on my lap he tries to put his hands on my plate, then...

I haven't yet read the book (by Gill Rapture - is that right?), but I think I like the sound of baby led weaning. Before I get the book though, I wanted to check - if I return to work when LO is 7 and a half months old, would I still be able to do it?
I am already a bit worried because LO won't accept a bottle. I am hoping she will accept other liquids, maybe from a cup, when the time ...

Hi Don't worry, it's really early days. We're doing BLW, Ruby is 7 months in a week and eats almost nothing. She is not interested in food at all. She is fine!

I've found the way that works for us is give her a bottle first, wait at least half an hour (but usually it's an hour) then give food.
If I give her food straight after a bottle then she's not interested really. And I'm not giving it to her before a bottle (as we're BLW) in case she gets too frustrated because she's hungry plus I want milk filling her up, not food.
As for meal times, it ...
