Welcome John! Others will chime in with their opinions and I, of course have mine. I have a BT3000 in Japan and 3100 Stateside. I have had other saws but enjoy this one. I am not a "
power user" that needs speed shoving and ripping 4X4 or even 2X4s. I enjoy the precision and flexibility that the 3100 offers. In answer to your questions:

You'll make a lot more off the DC, but $200 for the TS is a good starting point. Depending on where you
live in Michigan that should be the right price.
Will replacing the saw for less than $500 in five or more years be possible?
Where the new/used TS market goes is more up in the air now than when the "Handy Hank" was introduced.
If people find their way around the Sawstop ...

Good job from him and great of you to provide to provide the guidance and assistance.
Now all you gotta do is figure out how to keep him out of your shop long enough for you to get some
woodworking done!

I'm back for more help!! I'm making some cabinets for the kitchen, and I've cut the stiles & rails for the doors and face frames to length as well as the
drawer fronts. My question... is it better to stain the pieces before you put them together or glue them up first and stain when they are put together? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Geo

I can only tell you about my experience - I don't know what anyone else has to say. I bought
two bits on special - both failed pretty early on. One - a 1/2 inch bit I believe, shattered . That was enough for me . I'm now using Whiteside and Infinity bits. I'm sure there are others that will just rave about them. Just my two cents.

I'm not sure how old your stuff is, but a good source of info on older machinery is the Old
Wood Working Machines website: http://www.owwm.com/
That also sounds like some neat tools, especially the 20" bandsaw and drill press.
