Cherohola Skyway was a very very nice ride. I practically had the mountains to myself about a month ago. I was coming from Boone heading west and took backroads all the way there (couple of unpreventable occasions) and every road was well worth it. I thought the Dragon was fun. A bunch of goofballs hanging around having a good time and enjoying their machines. From what I heard, I felt a few of the riders were over analyzing 129 and making it...

Hi, planning a trip for July 2010 to tour the Alps. I'm trying to estimate what it's going to cost us (wife and me) for accomodations. Will be staying in France, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. Checking the web for Italy prices are listed in Euros but are listed as "per person" and "halfboard". Does this mean if the room is 150 Euros then it will be 300 for the two of us? In Switzerland the pricing is mostly per...

I'd highly recommend Hunt's Lodge in Tellico Plains - you can camp or they have shacks for $50 a night. Very clean operation. Right on the other side of the Skyway. Firepit including wood, hot showers, free coffee. I really liked it. A great restaurant in town Nut-n-Fancy.

Probably cheaper to rent then ship 2 ways, if you are only going for a couple of weeks. Tour companies are great, especially if there for the first time, but if you have a specific destination that may not fit. They will cost more $$, but might be greater value. What does the spouse expect?? If she expects a European vacation, again a tour company can offer more amenities and more ...

John Is that the shipping container out of Miami with the household goods and extra space ? The one with the flat pallet verses the traditional crate packing and its going by sea with a ten day arrival ? If so that is a great way to get there.

I've been toying with the idea of going to Alaska as far as Fairbanks and the Kenau Penn. before riding back down to Redmond for the Rally. Still playing with the plans, but hotels in Alaska makes the most sense to me too.

In the run up to the National at Johnson City there were several good articles on the area in BMW ON, which would be a great resource. Ditto the ride reports from several forums immediately following the National. On my ride down we hotelled it in Harrisburg PA the first night due to some awful electrical storms, but camped the rest of the way. Matthews Arm campground on Skyline Drive was ...

We lived in Iowa for a number of years, and in Kansas for many more. When we lived in Iowa we often drove to Kansas City for Thanksgiving. And we often drove in ice storms to do it - going one way or another. And those storms in Kansas and Missouri always spread eastward often along the I44 corridor to Chicago and beyond. If you need to be in Florida - you need a backup plan, like flying,...
