Hmm you think like me! Actually if they made good ones that didnt fail Id be all for them. Im not sure theyre even suitable for the GS and R. If they leak and the bike catches fire (while you're riding it) it could prove very embarassing.

had a friend of mine's bike self-eject a spark plug once, following a dealer performed valve adjustment/service. wonder if that tech used a torque wrench or just his hand? (with some ingenious craftwork alongside an Iowa cornfield, we were able to ride/limp his bike into Ft Collins CO, where a full-on thread repair could be performed)

This all comes down to if you are maintenance pragmatist, perfectionist, always take it to the dealer, or if it starts I will ride it type of person. Same as any discussion of religion or politics. We can fight it out forever, or agree to disagree. Lets just go ride, it is beautiful here. Rod

I have greased that lower shock bushing on the Telelever on my 94 RS at least four times. I do it about every 30,000 miles. Very easy to do. If you let it go too long, the bolt will gall the bushing surface and you may have to replace it.

Check that the throttle cable is not pulled up out of the ferrules. This is pretty common after a fuel tank R&R and throws the TBs way off balance creating exactly the kind of condition you describe.

I diagnosed my bad coil by pulling the secondary plug wire at idle. If it get REALLY erratic after pulling the secondary, that's the stick coil thats bad. FWIW Chicago BMW sells them for $75

Remus make a good sounding system, and Staintune as well.
I have had both on my 2 R1150R bikes. Have ridden with a bloke with an R1150RT, and it sounded good with a Staintune.

The fuel lines connect to the tank on the right. There are quick disconnects with little O rings on the right. There are two connections to the fuel distributor assembly on the right. The fuel tank vent line and overflow line are also on the right side of the frame. All generally above the right cylinder or just forward of there. And some of this is disturbed when the ABS is worked on. So ...

You need a thin wall deeeep socket. If you have the tool kit that came with the bike, it's in there.

sounds more like a bad ground connection than a bad battery. however, if you're on the original issue battery, it is likely due for replacement.

There are 2 common failures that cause play in the rear wheel.
I should know, I have had them both.
On the C stand, put your finger between the disk brake caliper and the brake rotor, grap wheel at 12:00 oclock and move back and forth, if you feel the rotor move relative to the caliper, you need to replace the Big Ball Bearing.
If no movement, then move hand to 3:00 or 9:00 oclock ...

I have an 04 1150RT. I change oil and filter every 4000 miles. I adjust valves, throttle bodies, and change the brake, clutch, transmission, and rear drive fluids every spring. I usually end up with about 10,000 miles per year so I guess my valves get adjusted around the 10K mark. I usually have to tweak one or two of the valves a bit, but never anything major. Air filters and fuel filters get ...

Hmmm make sure you charge the battery using the manufacturers recommended charging proceedure. Do you know what kind it is ie glass mat, conventional etc?

I would try and get hold of a standard seat, and see how that fits.
I dont think you will be able to lower the seat. You can raise them thru spacers etc.
The other option would be to get a lower rear shocker fitted, if the bike is what you want.

Who knows? Yours might last 100k miles and mine might go 200k. The only way to really know is to take it out and look at it. Maybe you dont even have to take it out. Anyway personally in my experience people worry about proactive maintenance too much. Just fix it when it breaks. Itll last longer that way and cost less $$$.

I would do an abs bleed first (front and rear), then the rear caliper, then left side, then right. since you have the tank off, unplug the ground on the battery for a few minutes then reinstall. Then perform an abs reset. Then test ride. Maybe half hour of work. If you don't know your bike well, you will be a little more confident when you are done........especially if this works for you. ...
