Ouch. I have heard of people who have pulled off the "intermediate housing" (aka - bell-housing, and the part the bearing is in) without removing the engine from the frame. Have not done it myself, so it's hearsay, but I believe it is reliable info.

When I removed the pulley from the 50 amp alternator to put on the correct specified KBike clutch - I had struggled in getting the nut off. I eventually wound up cutting it off carefully with a Dremel so I didn't damage the shaft. I went to the local hardware store and bought a new nut, not noticing that it was ever so slightly larger - I mean a few thousandths larger. Hence the reassembly problem, mounting the new alternator meant...

Don, I was unaware of the problem with copy right infringements with the web site I quoted in a post to nadday100. I have since done a little homework on the original posting of this information and can now say that I should have posted the address which you used. I search the BMW Motorcycle Club of North Jersey and did not find a posted link to the one which I gave in an earlier post. It does seem however that www.bmwmcnj.com still has an...

I went to the speedo post you listed for me and took the speedometer apart just like it said, the post needed cleaning and put some plumbers grease on them it does not take much corrosion to stop low voltage. Same with the break light the bulb base had corrosion on it, cleaned it up also and all is well now no more red light .thanks again E.L.Buff

Nearly a major fuel line mess up
Published (2009-11-26 15:42:00)
I decided to replace my incorrect overly-large metal Fram fuel filter with a correct Fram metal fuel filter and was fortunate to avert a careless disaster and costly repair. With all the wiggling around I inadvertently bent the aluminum intake fuel line. It was pointing straight up when I noticed. It of course broke off when trying to bend it back. The break was where the last weld holds the line against a trap-like box. I was able to...

Whether or not I used the specific articles copyrighted by Don, or articles by someone else, I DID use the IBMWR K-bike website when I did the spline lubes on 2 of my K75's. They are worth the price of admission! The one recommendation I would make is to use a bit stickier grease than the Honda Moly 60 Paste. From talking to both Paul Glaves and Matt Parkhouse, a 50/50 mix of Honda Moly 60 Paste and Wurth 3000 grease seems to work better...

I've seen one or two K75 rigs. But I've seen lots of K100 or K1100 sidecar rigs. The major manufacturers of rigs substitute a full loop frame for mounting the car. The K75/100/1100 bikes use the engine as a stressed frame member leaving darn few mounting points for the car.
A k75 is a little low on horsepower to haul a rig at high speeds, especially with head winds or clinbing grades, or ...

I've owned three K bikes: a 1987 K100RT, a '95 K75RT, and finally a '95 K1100LT.
Next, like all such purchases it depends somewhat on the bike and the maintenance history.
Mechanical condition and all other things being equal, if I were going to buy any of the three again it would be the K75.

In simple terms - get the stuff that is in the way of removing the transmission off.
Remove the transmission.
Clean the splines, being careful not to contaminate the clutch disk.
Apply new lubricant to the shaft splines only - not to the clutch hub.
Put it back together.
Highlights:
I remove the final drive from the swingarm but leave the swingarm attached unless I ...

Is this the rack you need? Except mine has a small loop at the front or against the passengers back.
Not actual photo mine is cleaner and off a 85 K100 would probably need modified.
