Will RT and GS header pipe...
Published (2009-11-28 19:36:00)
I have heard back from Beemerbits. He has tried a GS header on an RT and the angles are wrong so it is a no fit. Still looking..... Saw a complete Remus exhaust system on craigs list, so am wondering what computer/fuel system magic a guy would have to do to make that work or is it bolt on and go ,there is no cat. converter (not that I care). Are those pipes stainless or chrome plated? Boneyard doesn't have one and I have an e-mail in to...

R12RT Low seat conversion
Published (2009-11-29 08:50:00)
I completely agree! I was considering trading for a low suspension model until I test rode one at the MOA rally last July. The seat is very uncomfortable. The reason I was asking is that I saw a new Corbin low version (not that I am very fond of the Corbin saddles) on their website and was curious if they could be retrofitted on a standard suspension RT. I have seen great reviews on Russell and Mayer seats but haven't decided yet. The...

Will RT and GS header pipe...
Published (2009-11-27 20:29:00)
I'm trying to remember some of my fluid dynamics classes. I think I recall that the volume of fluid flowing through a pipe will remain constant until the pipe is restricted by 70% or more. Up until that point the speed of the fluid increases and the volume remains constant. Not sure if this is being recalled correctly and if it is, that it has any relevance to your dented pipe. Could mean that you need not be too concerned about any...

Will RT and GS header pipe...

BeemerBits and the Boneyard both have a GS header for $250....but I think Louis already said the parts numbers are diff...I know Fred had a '05 R12RT parts bike for awhile at CyclesRecycled...I'd try him Monday AM MPMARTY, that's some really thin walled stainless on the RT's...but maybe a great muffler guy could do something magical regardless.

Decoding factory options

That was the website that I saw the numbers on also. If you go to www.bmwmotorcycles.com and download the spec sheet for the motorcycle you're looking at, some of the codes are on the sheet.

Awesome video pffog! Looked real slick. After paying for multiple tire changes this year, I am leaning to trying this myself as well. Thanks to all for the information.

I have the 2009 RT with the low suspension, low seat which has the single piece seat. Trust me when I say unless you're planning on only riding about 45 minutes every time you go out, you don't want this seat. There is no padding in this seat to speak of and I find that it also slides you forward so that it makes it a little crowded for the family jewels. I'm definitely going to be changing ...

I have no experience with Rick Mayer, but have purchased 4 seats from Bill Mayer over the years for BMW's and, most recently, for my FZ6. Seat preference is a very personal thing, since no two backsides are the s ame. Bill Mayer has gotten it right for me (my size and riding style) or nearly right every single time. No break-in required; in all instances I've ridden 1,000 to 1,250 mile days (...

GPS said turn here, as I turned I saw a very narrow gravel road. Still in the turn I stop short, put my right foot down in a very soft gravel shoulder grading away and slowly . . . I . . . went . . . over.

Delivery day, pristine but not for long! Great long ranger, so comfortable.

At first I could see no reason why not......
Checking parts fiche reveals different part numbers for both s/s and chrome plated versions.....
My next port of call would be my local friendly BMW Motorrad dealer.....just to ask if it's possible....

if the end is larger, you may want to try tapping it out LIGHTLY with a drift pin to push the pin out,

The only "larger" battery I have seen in an R1200GS is the Odyssey PC 625 with a set bar modification. Otherwise there just isn't any room for more.

I think I'm going to make this a "stickie".. it is very frequently a concern with new BMW owners.
Normal. Unlike bikes with wet clutches (which always have some "drag" through them - keeping the transmission gears spinning slowly even when the clutch is pulled in) - a bike with a dry clutch allows the gears to come to a complete stop when the clutch is pulled in.
The gears engage via ...

I think it's a lowercase "t" and is normal. At least that's how it appears in the owner's manual (p. 58).

Best is a relative term.. best for what? Noise? Weight? Power? Cost? Looks?
You may want to drop in at: http://www.r1150r.org/board/viewforum.php?f=20 it's an R1200R specific forum, and a number of members have used aftermarket exhausts.

some dishwashing soap works wonders, have you tried that on the rim and tire?
Also another thing that may help is a longer lever arm to give you that addtional oomph to pop the bottom.
You didn't say it, but just incase watch out for the the TPM sensor when you put the pry bars.

The saddlebag mounts are a factory option. They come standard with the " Premium" package.

Bwahhaaaaa!
Harry Costello and I went though this with our R12R's on Saturday. We did it sans instructions.. but what we did worked.
To get into clock setting mode, press and hold the top button until the hours blink. Then use the same button to step through the hours until you get to one you like. Press and HOLD that button down until the minutes starts to blink. If minutes are OK (...
