I bought a K122LT (02) with 16k miles. Had the oil changed at the dealer. Since then, I have put 3,000 miles on it. I check the oil level and it was low. I took 3/4 of a quart to get back to normal....Is this normal? Does the LT use that much oil. Thanks

Hi all; I was going to pick up the 6x12 u-haul trailer on Monday to travel to pick up my 1200LT on Tuesday ( near Buffalo,NY). I heard that it was going to snow (about 10 inches!!!) and was wondering if the 5 x 10 enclosed trailer would be better to get!!! The inside is 4'9" wide, 4'7" high and 9'10" long. I need to check if there is d-rings inside before I decide. The open ...

I went with my LT to the local dealer, complaining about the cow bell sound. At first they said they will replace it under warranty with the style new 5 point rotor same day, then they called me that they just out of the new rotors and it will take two more days to get it. Today they called me that there is no more new rotors in stock in any of the warehouses and they don't know if and then ...

Hello I just got a 2009 LT about 2 weeks ago and am figuring things out, I put 1000 miles in that time. But it seems when I am going 40 mph and let go of the handlebar they gradually start to shake and it continues to get worse. Any ideas what this could be? I checked the tire pressure and it is ok Thanks Manny

Hi, My name is Sean and I am addicted to BMWs. I owned and road a 1978 R100S for years and finally sold it with 90K of my own miles on it. I just purchased a 2000 K1200LT which came with the OEM communications system. I have searched the forum and elsewhere and can't find the help I need with my issue. I have the set of J&M headsets and cables that came with the bike. The previous ...

This may be old news for many of you veterans but I found a new trick while changing my oil today. I have an '05 so the tranny oil is my least favorite part of the process. I was able to take some HD foil and form a funnel from the drain plug to my catch basin. This is my second LT and I have been changing my own oil since I paid for the first oil change on my '03, and I can say this is the ...

Went out to the garage to go to work early this morning and hit the button at the doorway. When I walked to the back to put my lunch in the topbox, I noticed a strong odor. I stepped outside and really couldn't smell anything there, but definitely could by the LT. I didn't really think to much about it, so rode the 10 miles to work and parked in parking garage. When I went back to put my ...

Dealer replaced entire head unit under warranty. Life is good, music from all 4 points of the compass. As an aside, when I was waiting I heard one of the employees going through the specs of the LT to an interested party. Quoted the MPG for highways as 50+. I chuckled. Cheers,

I thought it was the STARTER RELAY that caused the new battery to melt the negative post when hooking up the positive first then the negative with the original LT-2k starter relay, so I upgraded to the BMW modified one and same thing. Took off the relay (entirely) and same thing the negative post will melt if applied to long. I am at a lost to what to look for. I would love the input from ...

Installed Spieglers on a 2000 LT and now am the sad owner of an LT with no brakes. I've bled the heck out of the calipers using the recommended method (Clymer's Manual), except I didn't remove the calipers and compress the pistons to reduce the volume. I then moved to the ABS unit to bleed it. When bleeding the ABS it seems to have a very tight restriction from the reservoir to the ...

I have an 03 LT (E) that I purchased in June with 20K on it. Paid $9500 as the dealer thought it was an 02 until the deal was done and he pulled the title. I think that you have a good deal and I would go for it. I love the bike and it is a great ride and a bike that gets a lot of attention and compliments. Good luck and if you are ever my way give a shout and let's ride.

2005 LT, with 4 month old Odyssy battery. Keeps draining if the bike is not used over a period of a week or so. Went out today and she was dead again. Measured the battery in the idle state and it read 11.4 volts. Turned the ignition on and it dropped to 10.75 which was not enough to turn the starter sufficiently to start the bike. I took all the fuses out one at a time whilst measuring the ...

Since I've had the warning triangle coming up on my dashboard (which the manual says is a bad rear/brake light) I've topped up the rear fluid which didn't really need it and the front is full. When I turn the ignition on (but not start the bike) the two servo's whine as they should. If I apply the front brake gently, one of them seems to come under strain (as I guess it should) but if I pull ...

Finally pulled the trigger on some new shocks and currently am in the middle of the install. The front shock was a real problem till I searched the archives and found an entry by D Shealy. In short, keep the bottom gromet off the top of the shock and trim the rim of the a-frame hole about an eighth inch or more till the bottom of the shock fits in. I am bleeding a little from pushing the stock ...

Greetings: Please understand that this is my first LT (2009) and while it has only 600 miles on it perhaps I am getting used to the sounds it makes. The sound reminds me of the old muscle cars that were fueled with low octane gas. We used to call it "pinging". I only hear it when I start off in 1st gear. I am burning high test fuel and mentioned it to the dealer when I dropped it off today for ...
