The collets work great if the cue or what ever you are spinning is true. When I need a good center in a cue that has the points running out a little I use the four jaw independent so as to get a new center. Dick

Unless that machine is really new and comes with DRO and auto feed, I'm going to suggest that you could do better on price. If you watch the used machinery auctions, I'm positive that you can find a Bridgeport in your, or a neighboring state and get it for $900 - $1,200. Many auctions are selling a half a dozen of these that end up in that price range. Mr H

Obviously you want to be careful to not power the spindle when it's locked down, but for those of us without alot of big stationary tools, this helps make the ones we have multi-purpose.
The outer row of 144 holes are spaced 2 1/2 degrees apart, the middle row of 120 holes are 3 degrees apart and the inner row of 90 holes are 4 ...

since its too short for full work, you could always use it as a coring lathe? Maybe that and doing ring work and tenon's. Depending on the power it might be better suited for working with steel joints than some other equipment.
You can set it up to just be proprietary to certain jobs. Having the equipment to dedicate one+ job to one machine can be very advantageous, as opposed to do ...

That spindle bore is just slightly larger than a 13 mm tip. I would suggest going with something a little larger. Ideally you would want 1 3/8"+ spindle bore and 40" or so between centers. That would let you put any part of the cue through the spindle or between centers.

Two things are going to help you.
The diameter of the cutter and the number of 'teeth' on the cutter.
For instance, if you had a two tooth cutter spinning at 2K and were able to cut with a given feed rate, then replaced that cutter with say, a 6 tooth cutter of the same diameter, you could cut your RPMs by 2/3 and still get the same cut. Conversely, run the 6 tooth at 2K and it would cut...

which did you buy?
They had a booth at the apa nationals I think. It seemed fairly rudamnety but looked like it will work.
But they are not a proper lathe as such. The guy doing the demo did not really convince me it was really good. I think you would be way better off getting a hightower or something like that. I know they are alot more money. But I think it would be money well spent if...
