Sorry I thought I had replied to this. I wanted to update this as maybe my issue could help someone else. I did as Win had said and found the leak. It was from the one hose. I wen to the Ford dealer and they told me the part I needed for me to do the repair was a whole new vaccuum line kit, Kit cost me $23. I would have done what Wis had said with replacing line with stronger hose. I went to Autozone and the person told me at the counter that...

All this talk of back EMF (which I am familiar with in my work.....fortunately not on my vehilce).....brings be back many pages ago.....that you noticed the issue with the radiator fans turning OFF.....which would be in line with the back EMF. Thing is......those fan motors are not all that big.......AND....one major function of the Battery is to serve a a BIG capacitor.....and absorb voltage spikes that happen in the system. NOW, the digram...

The first mechanic was Merchan'ts, just had the belt replaced. I knew I needed to take it to someone a little more knowlegeable for the correct diagnosis. Had the cam shaft replaced as you said. No more sound, $250 later. Thanks!

I have a 2003 3.8 liter. all these lights came on so I applied a OBD II scanner which gave me code PO720 VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) this regulates transmission speed with drive axle, motor speed and the odometer. I spent several weeks without doing anything until the drive axle broke. leaving the transmission in what is called neutral "non functional". I change speed sensor and installed new drive axle. windstar is now...

Low on fuel when it's cold outside can cause that. Add fuel in the tank if you need. It's should be at leat 1/2.

The funny thing is that I just showed him print out of one of the messages from this forum where some one had mentioned the part number and the price of rockauto. The sales guy entered in his system "match competitor price from rockauto" He told me next time I should get a print out from the selling web site. I said, I will definitely remember that.

Yeah, typo. I wrote that whole post while falling asleep. The ground lead from alternator to body/chassis is an old ground cable that I pulled off my other car when I upgraded its grounding cables with a kit. I "think" its in ok condition and is certainly an upgrade from what Ford had put there before (one of those flat exposed metal ground straps; looks like a metal flat belt), still it is also a very old cable as my car is...

Coolant on serpentine belt -...
Published (2009-12-22 16:04:00)
I couldn't live live with the Pep Boys results, so I took it to Ford and they diagnosed the water pump and lower manifold intake gasket leaking, and a cracked oil pan. So I had them fix it all for $1100. I've had it back for a week now and all seems good. I'm still holding my breath, though.

If your engine is anything like mine (3.8L), there's a coolant pipe coming off the lower intake manifold which turns back towards the firewall. It then connects to a hose and goes to the water pump. That hose is directly over the belt, that would be my prime suspect.

Per this thread: " Dropping Resistor " - I have checked my dropping resistor and its broken. It wasn't "all the way" broken, but it was cracked all over, pieces off, and was on its way out. This could be the cause for my fan cut off issues though I don't know about the MPG issues. I've ordered a new radiator cap and new dropping resistor to solve the coolant level problem and the ...

You are correct, Coil pack seems to show up in posts as a issue for around your year. Plug wires and fuel filter are a couple of other items. Double check for any signs of cracked, disconnected or otherwise damaged vaccum lines, giving that PCV line a good look.....and making sure that the breather line from the rear valve cover is connected at both ends. You probably have a bad head gasket, pull all of your spark plugs the one with the leaking gasket will probably be obvious and be sopping wet with anti-freeze or just look very clean compared to the other plugs. But if all of the plugs look ok do a compression test it should tell you which cylinder is leaking. I would also stop driving it (or limit driving it to essential trips) ...

Most common causes of P0401 are defective DPFE, clogged EGR ports in the lower intake manifold, or maybe a vaccume line off or broken between the EGR valve and the EGR vaccum modulator. Also check the hoses that go from the EGR pipe to the DPFE. The EGR valve RARELY fails. The signal from the DPFE tells the PCM how much flow there is through the EGR pipe. The PCM uses this signal to...

ymmotman , you should read wiswind's posts at the beginning of the forum. You're problem is listed there. If you check under your master cylinder, you'll find a pressure switch that is most likely leaking. Replace that switch and clean up the old brake fluid and electrical connections that got fluid on them. Afterwards, check your fuses, I don't remember which one but if you do a ...
