O2 sensor after the muffler
Published (2009-12-23 21:48:00)
What code was it exactly? The post-catalytic converter (not muffler ) O2 sensor monitors the cat efficiency. If your code was p0420 (cat. efficiency below threshold), then most likely you have a bad cat. If that's it, you should still check the upstream O2, if it's reading lean and the PCM is commanding rich, then the post-cat O2 may be seeing that extra fuel and "thinking" the cat's bad. The PCM basically just...

Check engine light
Published (2009-12-18 19:53:00)
I checked Autozone.com again...The vent valve in the back of the car cost $44.99 and the one in the front in the engine compartment costs $28.95. I might splurge and buy the one by the gas tank since that's the dirtiest spot and I think the former owner of car lived on gravel road. They put that valve in a bad spot if it's affected by dust!

1999 cavalier z24 problems
Published (2009-12-16 08:08:00)
how much would it cost for a engine rebuild, becuz the car is immaculate, and i'm thinking of just finding a Z24 motor outta a 2000-2002 z24 4dr, think it would work just to drop it in and plug and play on the ECU from the car i buy the motor from ?

Possible radiator problem with...
Published (2009-12-20 15:40:00)
It is the head gasket. The coolant is pumping out of the tank. I'm in for a bit of a pricey fix but the shop that the car was parked in when I received it gave me a $500 estimate which I think is not all to bad. I think the damage may have been done before I bought it since it had overheating problems before.

94 Cavalier, pass rear brakes...
Published (2009-12-15 08:46:00)
FIXED! I took all the parts down to Advance Auto. First of all, this problem has existed since I got the last year. (pass. rear brakes grabbing). Turns out someone replaced the brake adjuster with the wrong part. The adjuster they had new was about 1/8" shorter than mine. 8 bucks brought it home and it fixed it.

1998 Cavalier parts
Published (2009-12-14 20:53:00)
They are 15 inch wheels. I have all four of them including good original hubcaps. Two of the tires are bald and need replacing, but the other two are brand new. I wouldn't want that much for them but I am thinking shipping them might break the bank if you live in New York. I am in southwest Michigan. It might be cheaper to buy aftermarket rims and tires from Pep Boys or something. Let me know if you are still interested, I have them...

Try to verify that ther fronts are working and have enough travel. The trouble seems to be in the front and not the back, right?

Maybe sensor is not bad, but telling the truth?

set the engine to TDC compression, spin the crank by using the bolt that hold the pulley on. Since the spark plugs are out you can use a long screw driver or something like it to stick in the #1 spark plug hole, DO NOT USE SOMETHING THAT CAN FIT ALL THE WAY IN THE CYLINDER!!! Now with the screwdriver in the spark plug hole slowly turn over the engine until the screw driver is at its highest point...

There's a very good chance the head gasket is shot, even getting up to the 260 degree mark is very bad on them, but if it gets to the point it's knocking because it's hot, it's very possible that the head even warped or cracked. The knocking you hear is the fuel igniting early from the heat of the valves or spark plugs.
If you got lucky and didn't warp the head, then anything leaking needs to...

I don't know, but since it's been a couple days with no reply... What I usually do is remove stuff to see what's under it. If you can't get to the motor that way, all you have to do is put the cover back on, if it feels like something's gonna break then stop where you are and put it back together. I've never had a problem just trying stuff, and sometimes I find a shortcut that lets me do a 5 ...

Welcome to AF!
In the future, please start a new thread for a new question, this one is over 5 years old.
You just have to keep trying, it'll go eventually. Get the hose on the rack first, leaving the other end loose. You can move the hose (push/pull/twist) to change the angle of the fitting, you can also try lubricating the threads, sometimes that makes it easier. Wearing neoprene or ...

Those engines are known for spinning rod bearings, so it's very possible. If it knocks on accel and decel, then it's probably an internal problem... only on accel could be preignition, does it do it both hot and cold?

Really only two possibilities, either the shoes are wrong or the new wheel cylinder is wider than the one it replaced.

I'm looking for:
A window regulator for the driver's side door (I have a 4dr),
A drivers side mirror (black, power),
And possibly a cooling fan.
