I am concerned about these "decoder outputs" and getting true 2.0 stereo... I should also explain this the above picture does NOT show the speaker connections for the center channel and rear surrounds. So my understanding is that this amp was intended to be a preamp for the mains, and an amp for the center and surrounds - it is really perfect for me if I can get true stereo... I have tried to get the manual from my brother but that...

That should be a nice setup. Let us know how it works out. Which amp are you getting? The reason I ask is that I use a single Onkyo M282 amp to run 3 sets of speakers and a impendance matching speaker selector to choose which speakers to have on. It is much cheaper than a mutizone amp and performs quite well.

My theater has a lot of treatment on the front wall (it's pretty much entirely covered) but I have nothing on the side walls/ceiling. The room is "live" and has a noticeable echo. That all being said, I don't have any problems watching movies and the imaging is great. I've even put up panels of rockwool on the sides and haven't noticed any gain by doing so. This is all very room specific, so take it for what...

Is this a good deal?

If it's from where I think it is, then no. Most of the knockoffs are cheap for a reason - they don't use the proper materials (even though foam isn't a great absorber anyway, at least the Auralex stuff is as good as you can get in foam IMO). Bryan

My basement HT room is 12-'6" x 11' so it's almost as small as yours plus I only have 7' ceilings! I have good equipment but I think the best money I spent was on sound treatments and a good AV receiver that has Audyssey equalization on it. Those two items made the biggest difference in my small room. To be honest, I think you can set up very well in your room if you plan it out properly. ...

A good way to get the feel of your room is to do a clap test or a finger snap test and listen for echo/reverb.
What I did was walk around my room with a bic lighter. While flicking the flat part (not the ball) of the lighter, listen for echo/reverb.
Echo/reverb is bad.
A good room should be void of echo/reverb.
After the test if you need treatment. Then happy hunting for information. ...

Hi Guys,
I have a room with dimensions 16X12X9. I plan on buying two 6in in-ceiling speakers by Polk for stereo sound. Right now i have the speaker wire running down the middle of the room and the speakers will be around 12ft apart. Is this a good distance or what do you recommend the separation should be?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
With modern processing, slight offsets in placements of the surround speakers isn't a show-stopper. If you have a relatively recent receiver, it will be able to adjust the delay and speaker level to compensate. The aimable tweeters will help, too.
You mentioned them being about a foot difference relative to the front of the room. What is the relative difference ...

Two mains issues, and yes they are very common. The first is the square room, and you're just scrooed there. Oh well. The second is that because the space is modest, you are given little to no freedom in bringing the speakers out (if the SBIR might demand that) and that you yourself are right against the back wall.
So, YMMV, but you can try treating the hell out of the place. How far are...

IMO, you're better off to setup 5.1 properly than 7.1 wrong.
