You have the general gist. I can't say that DD/DTS is lossy due specifically to compression/decompression, but only know that it is lossy. The bitrate for DTS is significantly higher. For BD, it's true that the codecs take up less space. However, they also seem to be more complex, at least as implementation, to me. On one hand, a videophile might demand that these codecs be used for the further decompression of video (and video...

So I guess I can understand an argument from the side of "we want you to focus on this specific thing, so we will produce the image as such" and I can also understand the argument of "well I want to be able to focus where I feel like it, so you should make that possible". I guess without asking the artists behind the product it's hard to know what their goal was. If I read your 20 GB per minute comment right, thats...

I think Avatar is a very good movie. That said, I don't understand why so many people are so up in arms over its supposed anti-capitalist message. Sure it shows a people that are in harmony with their planet and shows corporate greed as wrong. So what? It's a movie. If James Cameron thinks he's going to change the world with this film, he's even more self-absorbed than people say he is. The fact that our planet needs to be...

Oh, I noticed some things that maybe didn't make sense. This is what I mean by 'grain' (which Avatar had basically none of): The above is a nice 3D interior render, but because it wasn't left to 'cook' very long (as we call it in industry), it has some grain. The grain is easiest to notice in this image along the white walls, and at the base of the couch. The lighting is very good in the image, but because...

"Highest Grossing" doesn't translate to "Top Movies"
Very true. Plus, highest box office doesn't mean highest grossing (with disc sales and rentals playing a much larger role these days).
Nothing against the thread, Phil! Just some thoughts.

I watched this INDE film last night with the SO. We had no prior knowledge of the film and that turned out to be a good thing. This is a character based film and I found the characters interesting and engaging so I bought into it early on. In the tradition of the low budget, hand held camera perspective of Blair Witch (a film I didnt particularly care for) PA goes for and gets the, is this a ...
