Good used DD/DTS preamp
Published (2009-11-07 22:39:00)
Hi, Brad. When I moved from my Yamaha RX-V992 to a newer Pioneer VSX-1015 in 2005, I was extremely pleased. The VSX-1015 had better processing, and even more important to me, it had an auto set-up routine that adjusted equalizer settings that really made my system sound better. So, I'm thinking that a move to a newer receiver (or pre/pro) with auto set-up might give you the same improvements. Are there any other desires besides DD and...

Well I got my remote programmed to control the tv last night, but no such luck with my Sony DVD player. I got it in 1998, it was Sony's 2nd gen player I believe. In any case I am guessing it is too old. Oh well. So have any of you had any brilliant thoughts on why I'm having trouble with audio over composite? See my question #2 above for the details.

Before saying "No it will not be safe. In bridged mode that MA 500 will need to see 8 ohms, or it will blow up", let's consider some facts: - If you look at most impedance/freq curves you will see the dips typically occur in narrow bands and not always in the power demanding low/mid low frequencies. Manufacturer's quoted 8 ohms nominal would actually be quite useful. - Most mid range amps and receivers can handle such dips...

Actually, the SVS powers itself and is fed the low-frequencies from the Onkyo. I don't know the full power needs of the Alesis, but 4-ohms speaker loads can be a bit much for receivers.

Manufacture impedance specs mean nothing in my experience. Often, they are seemingly made up from thin air..... Most likely, with the driver configuration your speaker has, it dips to at least 4 Ohms such TLS Guy told you. I would use at least 300 watts at 4 Ohms rated amplifier for those speakers to get great dynamics. If you can afford it, 500 watts would be optimal. I recommend forgetting 'consumer' amps if money is tight. The...

Click the link above, any of the XPA series amps will deliver the juice to your front speakers they crave, then just let the receivers internal amps do the surrounds (unless youre really into SACD, then you should consider the XPA-5)

Hi. The owner's manual is a great place to check out this kind of information. I just looked into the 465 for someone yesterday.
According to the manual, you shouldn't connect speakers with impedances below 6 Ohms to the 465. My belief is that you can run 4-Ohm speakers, but the receiver will likely go into protection mode if you have them too loud because of the increased current draw from...

If you spin the knob quickly or press and hold the volume button on the
remote, it will go through its range more quickly. It's not really about
how fast you spin it but rather how far it is turned in a given period of
time.

Before I suggest a receiver or a particular way to control the system my
question would be do you want independant source control for each of the
zones or have all the non ht zones play the same source?

Hi. Unfortunately, the VSX-819 does not contain a video converter. Per page 13 of the owner's manual, you need to connect the receiver to the TV using the same connections that you used to connect the components to the receiver.
In other words, the receiver will not output video from non-HDMI inputs through the HDMI output. So, that explains why you aren't getting any video or sound from ...

Forgot to mention, my main concern is sound quality. The sound quality of the 919 shouldn't be any less than that of the 1019 right? I just want to make sure the 919 is exactly the same, except having a few less features. I just don't get why it's $100 cheaper...

Nah. Me personally, I don't even care if I /have/ a sub out since I use a separate DSP.
If you like the features of the other amps better other than the l and r sub outs, then you can always run an external crossover and have stereo bass that way. Just make sure the preamp allows you to run your L and R full range while having the rest low passed at 80Hz or where ever you need it. So, ...

I just want to make sure that I got it right - you want four HDMI outputs? I ask because I was wondering if you would consider using a receiver, but four HDMI outputs probably rules any of those out.
