I don't have a firm grasp on the specifics of the technology, but the reason for that is that the metal oxide varistors that are responsible for taking the load away from your components (and thus dictate the joule or voltage limits of your surge protector) are not all created equal or arranged/connected the same way within a surge suppressor. This makes it complicated to make a universal recommendation on what one joule rating means vs...

Multi-cable speaker cables
Published (2009-12-17 00:32:00)
A lot of the 4-conductor cable I found seemed to have a "combined gauge" rather than per-wire: though at this point the trigger has already been pulled (standard 2-wire speaker-wire labeled and bundled in a sheath).

HDMI...Do I need to upgrade?
Published (2009-12-16 19:20:00)
I have had my hdmi cables for a few years. At least the one going to my tv. Its about 1/2" thick dont know what its rating is like 1.2 or 1.3 or whatever hdmi is rated as. The ones connecting my cable box and BD player are from comcast and I dont know what they are rated at either. So my question is. Do you all think I need to upgrade them to be sure they are rated at whatever hdmi is out now or are they fine. If upgrades are suggested...

Multi-cable speaker cables
Published (2009-12-16 18:55:00)
I agree with Gordon that connectors and quality of termination are important. Although I have biwire cables, knowing what I do now, I probably wouldnt buy them again. Instead, I would now go for better quality single wire cable, with wire jumpers replacing the normal metal links between the speaker terminals.

First off, I don't know the power rating of your power conditionsr or your sub but generally high-powered decices (power amps, ubs, etc...)should be plugged directly into the wall. As to your original question, Mr Obvious says you should either move something or get a ginormous extention cord.

I would go with Canare 4s11 wire. I made my custom cables with it and it is very high quality and should serve you well. It may actually be the same as what BJC sells.

Hi. You are correct - you just need RCA cables. Some examples are these and these from Monoprice showing different connectors. They can be purchased in single or multi-cable configurations at various lengths. You can get similar cables at a variety of places.
