I'm game to squirt some "Stuff It"expanding foam down one of my arms to see (hear) the end result. Not looking for any secret recipe, but a general idea of what's used. I have recently heard of foam cut in strips and cotton or wool batting. I betcha that expanding foam, light and easy to apply, could make a nice choice. Concerns? If any chemicals inside are acidic. However as it's used around metal pipes,...

Not to hijack my own thread (Ha!) but since ive now got two TT's and two cartridges.. which pairing do you think works better together? the SL1300 or Dual 604 with the empire or Shure on the SL1300 (or Dual?) Id like to match up these pairs as best I can.

So this shelf works with opposite magnetic fields right? Then wouldnt the top of the unit move if the bottom was disturbed thus making it somewhat inaffective?

Sounds like it might be time to part with the Thorens and rotate in the Yamaha.

HI
I would say in general that linear tracking TT's are OK but I think it depends on what model you get. Revox did a nice one back in the 80's I understand. Also Bang & Olufson made a fine one as well.

It's a clone of an M91E. The stylus lpgear is selling is the N91ED, which is fine. Just be aware that this stylus is from a later batch that is made more cheaply than the original batch from the 70s. Nevertheless, having one of these I can say it's still very good and certainly worth $39.

I'll be shocked if you don't greatly prefer it to your preamp phono stage. You'll find a review or two on Vinyl Asylum, and plenty of comments in the archives there ...

I'm going to guess: 125 volts, 600 rpm, 3 watts.

You can get a shibata on that same site for 71 dollars I think. I was thinking about it. I think that even with conical it doesn't sound half bad for a cheapo cartridge. The HE stylus could be more worthwhile IMO though.

Would recommend cleaning the headshell leads and pins and also the interconnects. Use a contact cleaner like Deoxit. Also make sure the table is away from any amp/receiver. Start with this and let us know how it goes.

Greetings, I'll toss in my two cents as well.
If you have even a miniscule issue with consistent/quality playback, the P2 needs to go. You have a great cart. and pre, more often than not people spring for the deck and go light on the cart. and pre.
This Summer I decided to upgrade and get a new deck not have worry about things for a while. The P3 24 was my 1st choice, I liked everything...

Way cool!
I've seen that LP being offered on Elusive Disc, but had no idea what she sounded like. Real torchy.
Plus, she looked so familiar on the LP cover but I couldn't place her. I used to watch Emergency all the time, never knew she had a vocal background.
I grew up with changers like that, used to stack 'em 4 or 5 high on the spindle, amazing the platter could even ...

What cartridge do you have on the TT?

Something is wrong. It shouldn't move back and fourth like that. Maybe your pitch fader is dirty? Does it move back and fourth like that at any pitch, or does it smooth out when you set it at a different pitch?

One thought that comes to mind is the M-Audio Transit . You would combine the stereo outputs to a mini plug into the Transit and connect the Transit to a USB port. One option for the software would be Audacity, which is free. The Transit comes with music software, too.

Not particulary surprised, given that it's VPI. I for one am not impressed with their build quality.
