I have a note in my SDS stuff. I'll look it up and get back to you. I do see one quick note that says R132, change to bias pot (6.8 to 10k).

Yep, Jim will help you with individual parts. I think he'll put a kit together too, if you wanted to go that way. Triode Electronics also has a handy circuit board called the SDS board that will replace the can caps and the bias caps, if you want to look into that. Lots of info on it here in the tube forum. Just use the "Search this Forum" tab at the main page of the tube forum to find loads of Fisher threads.

Great! So the diodes are good but it wouldn't hurt to replace them. To start off with, just do a good cleaning of the switches and tube sockets and then eventually you will want to do a total recap job on that puppy and maybe get the tubes tested. Out of all the tube and solid state junk that I own, I have yet to acquire a Harmon/Kardon tube amp. They are known to be very good and some day I hope to acquire one of them! I'm still...

im with jaymana on this one. i use plastic storage bins. i dig when i need stuff and its like christmas everytime. the prized finds go into smaller bins for easier retrieval. i dont toss any good tubes. tv tubes may be plentiful know but that wont always be the case. unlike many other electronic parts, tubes are very sturdy and can be stored in hot or cold climates without much worry. my stash is about 8k.

For the 6AQ8, check your chart for 6DT8. That's a direct sub for the AQ8. And @ 1/3 the price too. I had to figure out the specs for a 76 tube the other day on my EICO 625 tester. There should be, in the instruction manual, a procedure for a tech to spec out a new tube before the new sheets had come out. If there is, take one of the tubes you know is weak and use that to get the basics down. Then tweak the shunt spec with 4 or 5 good...

Fred,
Off the top of my head, I can't recall having to connect any on-chassis resistors to the SDS board. My advice is that the drawing of the circuit path of the board is backwards. I traced it on the back of the paper, and it made much more sense to me when I did one a coupla years ago. I think there are some resistors on the board. I can't recall offhand what R132 is even for.

I wouldn't worry about Ohms Law at this point. It appears that your utility feed voltage issue needs to be addressed first. (Remember when I told you the voltage on the plate was most likely between 425 to 475 volts)
What's the voltage coming out of the wall to this unit?
Are you sure about those mV measurements? .01V ???
Don't worry about the dropping resistor at this point ...

variac it up slowly in 5 min steps tubes in and watch for glowing plates or anything wierd. Start at 60-80 volts AC. Monitor PS volts and watch variac I as AC goes up to 120. Use a dummy load for spkrs, no signal. If after 20-30 min all is still well and no smoke, run a 1khz sine wave thru each ch then both and watch at spkr terms. on scope as you run up the amplitude for any aberations. Then run...

There are a lot of projects that use 6080/6AS7G for output tubes - some as push-pull, others as single-ended, and a few that are OTL. Just Google a bit and you'll see.
The tube has a low plate resistance, but it is not always the easiest to work with, because the filament current requirements are high, and the sections are often poorly matched. It wouldn't be my first choice for a hi-fi ...

McIntosh is extremely well-built, and they'll provide parts for even very old stuff. I'm not a McIntosh owner, but I visited the factory and was very impressed with the care and craftsmanship.

I wish I had that particular problem, I've read good things about all 3. I think if I were in your shoes, I'd do all 3, then decide for myself. Good luck.
