I smell a TV show. Or do they already have "Pimp My Speakers"? Those look great (flipping issues/non-issues aside), and I'm not a big fan of the flashier speakers (like Klipsch's home-theater ones). How well does that stand sit on the floor? Would that work with a carpet (and where did you get them?)? Nice picture, by the way. Real-world lighting.

I think AK member GordonW prefers series I. I'm 99% sure of it. I like both. No real favorite. Just to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, there's also the A40V, a video shielded version. I own a pair of those as well. The later HD5 is the next generation of the A40. I know of a restaurant thY still runs numerous pair in their dining room with original foams.

That bump is not a trademark of acoustic suspension speakers, but of that particular speaker. It's a result of a Qt greater than .707 that is, in turn, a result of a smaller than optimum box. (optimum in this case meaning maximally flat) It's easy to make a sealed box speaker without that. You just have to make it bigger.

Nope -- I looked at that already (thought thanks for it anyway). These are wider than high (about a yard high and 4 feet wide) and have only a single strut across the grill, and have solid sides (though with the same bevel in the rear).

There are some calculations that are not explained in the Pi Speakers writeup, and needed some figuring out. Hopefully I did it right.
Here is the compensating network I came up with to drop the gain of the HF by 10 Db and to provide high end boost as well. It does flatten out the upper octave somewhat, but a little more may be needed.
The Xover schematic is given, and shows the ...

I do remember when I first saw the Realistic Mach Ones on display at my local RS...a big sign hung on them stating that they came w/a lifetime warranty. It was probably about 5 or 6 years when that warranty window was reduced to 5 years. Now if this is one of the indicators between 40-4024 & 4024A is my first guess. Just fyi.

So what's the special part of Minimus sevens? I understand the need of small computer/bedroom/office speakers, but why not buy something with a small, separate sub and two sattelites? I understand that Realistic is no small fry ( LAB-400, LAB-300, and LAB-420 here!), but what's the main attraction?

Pretty close price wise for a set of used Klipsch KG4s or even Hereseys at todays prices. Used market is way down because of the economy but I would go used if I was looking right now.

I recently picked up a quad of Realistic Nova 7B's at the Goodwill for $16. Two worked and two had blown crossovers and tweeters. The cabinets are solid and well built and they are sonically acceptible. Not the best speaker I've heard, but definitely not the worst. Tough to find drop in modern day replacement tweeters without having to modify, but I've been intrigued enough now to consider ...
