I just noticed that on epay, the kit is from St peters, MO, which is where Musical Concepts is, and which is relatively near me. So the recap I would be doing is the same as the Musical Concepts recap. So for $70, there's that part. When I am done with that, I can look into putting in some more interesting resistors, especially in the phono stage....

Why do you need it calibrated, exactly? I mean, if all you're using is to drive speakers, then being roughly on frequency of the dial is about all you'd need, I would think. If your computer has a mic input, then I'd suggest something like Audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) to do the job. Take a look a the specs. As for adjusting the old RCA, that's a different issue. It ...

Best sounding current CD-R/RW recorder would be the Alesis Masterlink or the Tascam DSD recorder (can also do CD-R/RW). Most reliable recorders currently are the Tascams. Don't know much about the new HHb but it does offer nice features. The early HHb recorders were very nice machines, they got unreliable later on.

I have a "lost period" as well (not quite a decade), from about 1997 through 2005, that coincides with job changes. In 1997, I changed jobs and went from having a short commute and lots of time to listen in both the a.m. and the p.m. to having a 1.5 hr commute each way which ate up a lot of my free time. Plus, my son was born in 1998, so listening in the evenings was necessarily ...

So I'm from both sides of the spectrum... I love hi-fi, but am also a studio engineer. Sometimes I like to pose this question.... What is the real difference? Studio nuts say hi-fi is not fit for the studio due to low quality and hight noise ratios... but Hi-Fi nuts pay top dollar for gear studio owners would deem unuseable to produce the records you all are listening to. My question is...

I use an Onzow Zerodust, to great success, on my tables. I was at a friend's house, the other day, and he had a similar situation. No Zerodust, no ME, which, apparently doesn't work, anyway, so I got in close, shed my spectacles, and patiently worked with his LAST stylus cleaner. Eventually, I wielded a fine pair of tweezers, once the dust bunny had developed a 'tail', which I could grab...
