My wife gave me a lot of stuff from Merge, and in the pile were Superchunk's _Leaves in the Gutter_ and the 20th anniversary covers comp.

[QUOTE=ashok;3296192]Could you please explain what you mean by lossy flac? flac is lossless - Free Lossless Audio Codec. The data is compressed, not re-interpreted.

What media are you using in your Marantz? They dislike high speed media and some early models insist on Music CD-R media in spite of being professional units. Try some Taiyo Yuden (now JVC) or MAM-A or MAM-E media in it. This media is known as Kodak Preservation Disc, Apogee Archive Reference, or Mobile Fidelity UltraDiscs.

I do lossless, just for fun. Running it off of my headphone output into my Grado SR125s I can't hear that much improvement but its enough. Its more for in the future when I get a good DAC and hook my computer into that into my stereo.

Hybrid has two layers: regular cd and SACD that allows you to play in both SACD and CD players.

This is a fantastic player. I never owned a MkII (and it is quite different than the original), but own both a 102 and a 302.
I don't have a specific cause for this symptom, but I would be looking at the power supply, make sure 5V is clean, etc. Unfortunately, this may be a "gotta have a manual" repair. I can look at my old SERIS (Sony repair database) stuff and see if there are any symptoms...

It uses a sony 16 bit single dac (cx-20133), timeshared between the channels, a couple of TL082s opamps as integrators, nice dual triple stage LPF and and NEC4570 dual opamp for the output.
It sounds smooth and quite nice. It has BTW the KSS-121a laser which is worth more than the machine as a spare part. They sell for about $100USD for the laser as it is used in a bunch of Sony's and Denons.

FLAC is way better than mp3 because it is lossless. If you don't want the "full monty" WAVs, then FLAC is the next best thing. Some say better for a huge collection because FLAC supports better file tagging than WAV. I would not, no way, no how, re-rip to mp3.
I'm confused on the 99 hours. Was that to convert your 15,000 mp3 to FLAC (which would be a waste of time because FLAC will not "fix"...

I've had very good luck using automotive Scratch-X and/or pure carnuba wax. Apply rubbing in small circular motions and buff out with a very soft cloth. It may take a few applications for the scratches to go away, but they almost always do.

Hi,
I'm afraid I cannot help answering your question. I would like to just leave this sort of general troubleshooting, just in case: http://www.lampizator.eu/LAMPIZATOR/...aserology.h tml
