Thank you for that note roger. #1 I understand and thank you for the heads up. #2 O.K.I'll check out the polypropylene capacitors. #3 Oh yeah its tight alright. Its damn difficult to get the woofer seperated from the cabinet.Good seal there. Thanks #4 I think the cabinet is pretty stiff it has cross braces in there but I will feel for bad vibes later today.Walls are not thin so that part seems alright #5 There is fiberglass batting in...

Outstanding Matt! Not too many SS DIYs floating around, so it's always a pleasure to see one--especially with usb/mp3/remote control! Now you do know your power supply will have to have a pair of big illuminated meters ala McIntosh, right? Just to balance out the ultra modern usb/mp3 ports. Best, John

instead of the big magnifiers, buy a pair of 2.5x reading glasses, and wear them over your regular glasses. much clearer, available, and less expensive.

Thanks Redboy for enlightening me (putting it here on AK) and thanks to Harry for designing it. For all those that are already modifying the design without making one, why not build one first? It does not take much. After that, add some more stuff to it and tell us if it improves, or detracts from the design. My thinking is, the more people making and playing with this design, the more info for all. From what I can tell, costs range from about...

Very nice writeup, thanks! I don't have a Pioneer, but still such a writeup is an excellent read. If perhaps an Ampex AG440/445 could be done the same way, then woo woo for me to read!

I have read several posts about stripping tonearm wire and when I rewired mine with 33awg cardas I used the ' burn it off with a soldering iron' method and it worked for me. Of course YMMV.

In that previous thread, you mentionned using the passive volume with a Marantz PM8003.
The input impedance of this amp's Main In is 20kohm, not as high as it should be for a HH design. But you made a series attenuator, am I correct?
When paralleled with the 100k pot, total load presented to the source is 16.7kohm, which is better than the recommanded 1:10 ratio, assuming around 1kohm ...

The pentode section will not work so well rigges Ultra-Linear. ...

Well, my first question has been answered.
They are in fact removable.
So, does anyone know where I might buy some replacement hinges?

Yesiree, another Pass builder makes his mark!
It will be cool to see your build, Russell, with the P Daniels boards. Special's, Tal's, and my followup build are really quite a similar layout. From looking at the P Daniel's boards, you should have a different mounting scheme regarding the Mosfet to heatsink relationship, correct?
What type of transformer did you go with?
Good work ...
