The roads were stupid

1st: i would check the fat pipes from intercooler to the turbocharger if they are split, 2nd: check tthe bottom corners of h radiattr for corosion, if no crusty deposits present, then it could be a leaky water pump, cyl.. head flange(check the seal) or even a craked head- if some
smart ass topped up with cold fluid on a hot engine ! 3rd: see if the aircon works by pressing the snowflake button on...

Hi mate, thermostats are quite a common failure on the v6 tdi engine and as you know, its a belt off job. I would check first the electrical issue you have with the temp. sensor and replace the thermostat when funds allow. If the car its high milleage, i suggest you replace the hydraulic damper next to the cambelt tensioner, bit pricey but they fail with

If it`s the PD140 engine it a design flaw that many PD140 engines do. If you find it annoying you can raise the rev limit by a few hundred RPM to cure it.
