When you're buying an slr camera, you're really buying into a lens standard. Nikon and Canon would be generally regarded as top of the heap. I'd research into the Four Third lenses before buying. I remember when they were launched, the variety of lenses wasn't great, and the reviews of the ones that were about were variable, and I seem to recall them being pricey.

Cheap Disgo netbook (only know them from their pen drives/memory sticks) for €123.49 on play.com.
It will cover internet use and you can use a portable version of Microsoft Office with it (run it from pen drive).
It should do her job adequately. Screen might be a little too small at 7" but worth checking it out anyway.

When you choose 'file' & then 'print' ('or control + p' or whatever way you normally print), when the print dialogue page pops up there should be a 'properties' button beside the printer name.
Click the 'properties' button, then choose the 'Paper/Quality' tab, & you should be able to choose 'black & white' there. Then click 'ok', & 'ok' on the original dialogue pop up page.

From a quick google, it sounds like there's a problem with your installation of Office 2003. Get the CD and run a repair installation.
