Porsche Boxster
Published (2009-11-10 23:03:00)
Reliability is engineered into Porsches at the factory, keeping it there is what the Porsche-approved maintenance schedule tries to do. The Boxster has a reputation as the hairdressers' car but I don't think it's deserved. It can be a driver's car (depending on the driver) and is fun. I've never owned one but I've enjoyed spins from time to time. You're talking 180 / 200 bhp (nominally 210 /215 IIRC but...

Parking and Neighbour ??
Published (2009-11-09 18:16:00)
Ceist Beag I don't agree completely. I believe that the type of person who does what the OP is decribing is different to the majority... most people don't put notes on cars in this situation. The neighbour doesn't own the space, yet behaves as if he does... so his behaviour can't be easily predicted. I have seen this situation, where my neighbour called into my houose asking me to move my vehicle, so she could park outside...

on my 01 Golf I think (haven't checked yet) its located under the bonnet on the RHS as you stand looking at it i.e. in front of the passenger seat. You lift the rubber strip and there is a few Philips head screws there. In behind that if the video on YouTube I watched is correct. I am going to the autopart store now to pick up a replacement filter, and will hopefully get a chance over the next couple of days to change it (wife uses it...

Replacing battery in '02...
Published (2009-11-12 18:15:00)
You might need a radio code otherwise should be no problem. I had the battery out of a passat 01 130 for about an hour while doing another job. Once the battery went back in all worked fine. If you get a new battery make sure it is the same size and has the poles on the same side and same shape poles. be careful lifting batteries they are heavy and can be a nuissance to get in and out. Otherwise easy enough diy job. Halfords will replace for...

Published (2009-11-10 14:04:00)
Hi I've just rang the NCT office and they said they only need the cert if there's a problem with the chassis number and even they you get 20 days to produce it.

2 owners - one was a lady from the UK, the previous owner is an old guy (restaurant owner) who has gone bust (allegedly). I just would like to find out about the actual engine - am I just paying for the badge or are they fun to drive and reliable?

Still no disc from 123.ie!
Published (2009-11-04 13:53:00)
Said there would be no need to do it when I suggested it yesterday (they were adamant the docs were in the post friday remember) for some reason. Didn't have a chance to say it today but would such a letter suffice anyway?

I think the problem is the 50km/h as you approached the lights. Even when green you're supposed to slow speed (not to a crawl) but to allow for safe stopping just in case. Even at green there is the caveat that you can proceed "if safe to do so".
Amber is prepare to stop and the argument of the Gardai would be you should have anticipated it.
Not a defence of them, but I don't see much ...

Second that, MKW are the best shop for diagnostics and repairs. Saved a fortune on the main dealer rapists , somewhere in the region of 1000 euro. Don't bring your car anywhere else. MKW are what a good business should be.

I drive a 04 320D myself and love it, great power, great economy. Have it for 18 months now, and haven't had one ounce of trouble with it. Not sure on price of the ones you mentioned, I paid 15,500 for mine in the UK in June 08, this included VRT and transport costs to get it home. Mine is well spec'd with full beige leather interior. Have you tried www.usedcarsni.com or www.cargiant.com ? I ...

I can't see any garage giving you a swop as while you would expect 6 months guarantee on their car, you won't be giving them any guarantee on yours which could have unknown problems.
I would also be surprised if they would change for just 500euro unless there was maybe 3 years between the 2 cars

Maybe the time on the speed camera didn't take the 1 hour change for daylight saving over the October Bank holiday weekend.
Could you have been speeding at the location 1 hour earlier?

Don't know about legal situation but if there was an accident in that situation the weight of the adult would do untold damage to the child as it would be crushed between the seat belt and adult.

AFAIK I think you get an end of life cert from the scrap yard and you send that with the log book to the Vehicle Registration place in Shannon

No clever ideas but as I am sure you are aware nobody owns the road space in front of their house.

I think the cat. convertor smells more like rotten eggs/sulphur - not certain though.
You should maybe have the air con and pollen filter (if you have one) checked.
Mats maybe?

From what I can gather it's not difficult - at all.
BUT, it is important to do the job correctly and to carry out steps in a specific sequence etc.
If you intend keeping your current car for a few years a Haynes manual or simlar will tell you all you need to know.
