So much depends on the purpose of the trip and the destination itself. If I'm going somewhere I know, among people I know, it's easier to travel light. But a trip to a new place where weather and formality are uncertain, I would rather have that trench coat (or whatever) and not need it than vice versa. I have reached an age, I think, at which I want certain niceties at hand. I will not, in the interest of travelling light, go...

Greetings,
This is one of my first posts to AskAndy but I've been a lurker for many years. I'm still working on my business fashion sense, and slowly getting there (in my mind at least).
I'm breaking the silence to ask about travel bags. I recently started work as a business consultant and will be traveling more frequently. Typical travel is for 5 days, domestic and international, and ...

I have several books on this topic. I suggest you break down your entertaining needs into categories and build around personal favorites.
For example. I own over three types of whiskey, although I very rarely drink it, and it only comes out when I need a fortifier during a poker game or something.
However, I serve a lot of red wine and light cocktails. Therefore I have lots of various ...

I don't think traveling light and under packing are one and the same. When I travel I try to travel as light as I can while still having everything I might need. I try to carry things that I can mix and match as much as possible.
For example, the last time I went on a week long trip that required a coat and tie every day I took a charcoal suit, a navy blazer with three pairs of dress ...

when i read the title i thought someone has worked out how to do the mary poppins thing, which would save me a fortune in airline tickets.
i suspect that a well-made metal-shafted umbrella would emerge from the airport luggage machine as a pretzel. a stout wooden-shafted one might do better.
fox and others make a proper umbrella with a detachable spike and handle, shrinking it to 25 inches...

What are our favorite locations for business trips? My own would have to be Quebec City. Great food, wonderful architecture, and sitting in the Frontenac with a drink late at night overlooking the river during summer is amazing.
