New Drawing Table

Very nice Mike! That should last a lifetime. The best table is the one that actually gets built. I live in a family of builders/carpenters and I had to buy a table. I guess you'll have to build the chair yourself too. I see you have no shortage of still life subject material around your room--I like your glasswork!

Maureen , so many thanks for these kind and encouraging comments. As funny as it might sound, at some remote area in my heart I am bit uneasy with this drawing. I can't put a finger to it. It could be that I am deviating a bit from my 'over-detailedness' and attempt to let the whole drawing draw the viewer in and not so much the details. Does this make sense?

For wanting to learn to draw, you've made a good choice seeking out this forum. I would say the next thing to do would be to post up something you have drawn and read through the existing threads in this forum. Not only are you going to learn from what you do, but you'll learn from what others do too. One step at a time and patients is key. Once you start drawing, you'll determine what you like (unless you already know) and...

I know I suck because I haven't been around but I've been so dang busy with
artshows and deadline plus teaching and ALOT of oil painting. Things are
calming down a little and I did this piece for an exhibition at a gallery
in January. The top has several loose cherry blossoms cascading down over
their heads. The picture is blurred a bit and the original is crisp and
sharp. This is too big to scan...

Hey, now that is great. You should be pleased with this. I can see how a class like this would help you to understand forms and shadows and such. Well done.

WOW ! It's cool to see monochrome drawings from you Kurt . Very nicely done, both! Having seen other works of the same model ( is that right? ) I can see how well you handled the forms and what seems to be a distinct nose for that model. In fact, am amazed at how the nose stands out in the first one almost as if it was worked on toned paper and not bristol smooth. Will have to check out that ...

Since I have never drawn water, I will be of little help. I love what I see. Maybe by bringing out some whites a bit stronger/brighter, and some reflections?

Why do we/I draw with graphite?
Dear friends,
while drawing I am contemplating the question: Why do I work in graphite?
The longer I think about it, the more it seems to crystalise that I love black and white because it seems to be so basic to me.
Don't we say that value does the work and colour gets all the credit? It is this ...

Reinhard,
Things are looking great so far but I can't quite understand why you draw on rough paper when drawing intricate detail. I find the roughness of the paper really interferes with the process and it's a fight to get the image completed. Rough paper is more suitable to a simpler drawing technique in my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing your work again--you've improved tremendously ...

Hey Jim ~
Very nice work that you have done so far.
Well with that size, you would be cramming to get it done. OR should I say, I would be!
She looks like a most lovely person and no wonder you would want to draw her. Great work, so far!!
Bless you brother pencil! IRma

Kirants, congratulations on your class experience. I haven't done a complete image from life of a person in a long time. I use to do demonstations for schools. many times I would pick out a student and draw them.
Many years ago I saw a movie made about Michael Angelo and how he would sit in different areas just drawing the people around him. So I started doing the same thing. It really...

by one who sees
a very nice lil portrait...my question would be though because you DO recognize the skew....did you draw this as it laid flat? or tilted?
many times if your drawing with the surface flat, it can become a bit skewed...if this is a problem for you, and is for me, raise up your drawing surface to be more verticle....
