What you need to look for in an SSD is: a) TRIM support - otherwise performance degrades over time b) a chip with good caching to alleviate poor random write performance of MLC SSD (no SLC SSD are affordable) - Intel

I'm all for people improving things, but make sure that there isn't already something that can do what you want. The default kernel from Debian is probably not that useful for a comparison. It ships with all
preemption disabled so that it's optimized for stability and server loads. This makes Debian perform poorly for interactive things, by default. This CK patch has about zero chance of making it into the kernel. At least the way it is. And the requirement to disable dynamic ticks will hurt battery life ...
