I don't think you can see an AppleTV in isolation, it's not useless without iTunes but comes close. It isn't a HTPC, just a media extender with some added features. Valve's best move is to ignore these lame complaints and go ahead with the release. Anyone who bought L4D when it first came out already got their money's worth, including several significant content upgrades to a game that already boasts significant replayability even for a multiplayer experience. Their test methodology seems horribly flawed and ignores any advantages gained from a fast browser. They basically loaded pages, then refreshed them every minute. Let's say: it would have taken them long enough. This nickle&dime practice must be the single biggest reason to switch away from apple products. It makes my blood boil everytime. ESP since ms can give away free zune updates. Now apple how about allowing me to buy an iMac with decent gpu without doubling the price and I will love you again.
