Forty years ago, on December 1, 1969, the first Vietnam
draft lottery was held, which used birthdays to determine the random order in which young men would be chosen for military service in 1970. Birthdays were drawn from 366 blue plastic capsules.

The cover picture for Vietnam magazine December 2009 shows a hoist rescue by the crew of an HH-43. It is listed as "
Air Force pararescue Jumpers hoist a wounded soldier of deep in the jungle in 1966" and was apparently from the Larry Burrows collection.
Does anyone have any information about this photo? I lived with several pilots of Detachment 6, 38th ARRSq based at Bien Hoa Air Base ...
