@ Kupo969 C.ornata doesn't always have the spots just FYI. but you are right generally they do. Nice cranwells you have there is this your first fat frog? if it is I doubt it will be the last! don't be surprised if your frog doesn't always have much of an appetite, in my experience the C.cranwelli have the least voracious appetite, unlike a C.ornata or a P.adspersus. Your tank setup sounds good but post some pics of it!

Chinese firebelly newt question,...

Agreed. Interesting that he(hard to tell in that photo) killed another newt...are you sure? I've never seen any signs of agression even when two males are vying for the attention of a female. I would look around for someone with LTC they are looking to get rid of. After having pretty bad luck with petstore newts(1/4) I got some from someone who was looking to get rid of them. This group did great for years and produced lots of babies...

Every single ornate I've seen has these spots. That is the main way to distinguish the two (cran vs ornata) other than color (not always accurate).

Chinese firebelly newt question,...
Published (2009-11-30 19:13:00)
He bit the other newt and I thought nothing of it, but when I came back hours later the other newt was dead underwater with a few small chunks of flesh ripped off of it, it had white sores where the skin was ripped. I dont think it died of the injuries, but possibly drowned or was too weak after to reach the water surface. When I came down I quickly took it out and put it on moist moss to see if it was alive, but after an hour of no movement I...

What's the scientific name of your frog? There are many fat frogs out there that are referred to as pacmans.. but usually the nickname "pac man frog" describes the Ceratophrys genus.

I'm not sure on the exoterra sand but have you considered using pool filter sand? That is what I believe we used at the zoo (or just straight play sand). Most of our substrate was crushed shells but we did provide a sand box I hope you realize how smart these guys can be. They will benefit from some enrichment which, unfortunately, many ray keepers neglect. What we used was a hamster ball...

Pet store near me still has them. I think the real reason is that they simply tend to die so stores stopped carrying them. Chinese firebellies(and most other newts) are actually very tough animals, but go through incredible abuse when WC(which all pet store newts are! No one currently breeds newts in wholesale quantities). Not to mention the environmental considerations. I am an anti WC ...

Maybe a morph. I did some light reading after John Apples pink/albino/white scorpions whatever you want to call it and learned the lack of Melanin causes albinism while the over abundance of it causes black. I started wondering if this is how we make color morphs. Parents that either have or don't have it and it throws a fluke. Never found the question to my answer if it is possible that ...
