I vote for the kitchen too. I keep my tanks away from the speakers for the TV, because when they were by it and it was on, they FREAKED out.

MTS can withstand a LOT of things. They have the ability to seal there shell and stay there in some of the worst toxic conditions. Pooring boiling water into the tank may crack your glass, I would not reccomend this. As inexpensive as pool filter sand is, I would take all of the old out, rinse the tank out, give at a wash down with bleach-rinse really well, towel it out, and put in new pool filter sand and triple dechlor the water when filling...

Goldies are generally not shy & likes to have human traffic & interaction, so I think Kitchen is the better of the 2. Hiding place is a good idea, but most goldies won't need it. and next to the sink makes pwc a cinch. You might want to have a canopy for the tank, so things don't drop into the water.

Yeah, like if you tried to put your hand though the wall. If you have a sponge on the intake, theres no chance it would be in the tube. Keep in mind...4 gallons is an extremely small amount of water, considering what they have in the wild, and you will at some point experience an ammonia spike if it is lost and not eaten. Keep doing frequent water changes! __________________ "Life is the art of drawing without an eraser."

How close is the stove/oven? Id try to keep it at least 4-5 feet away so the tank isn't subjected to any radiant heat. Smells shoudn't be a problem. Unless your goldie likes human food. He might get hungry

If you're talking about your 10 gallon tank, that's way too many fish. Remember 1" of fish per 1 gallon of water. You also need to figure out why your cory cat died before buying new fish.

Some fish like the current. I have baby guppies that like to swim head on into the outflow of my HOB filter. As long as he looks healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.

confusing ammonia test results I have been cycling my 55 gallon tank and for the past 4 weeks or so I have been getting a consistant reading of 0.25 ammonia even though I was past the time that everyone else says it takes to cycle a tank. This morning I tested and it was 0.25 again. I did appox a 40 percent water change then a few hours later tested again and it was still at 0.25. I...

My suggestion to you, as I have said in your other threads, is to not add anything else to your tank. I say this because you are having a lot of problems with it that I honestly feel are due to putting to many fish in such a small tank. Allow your tank to stabilize and have at least a month without any deaths, then think about adding something else to your tank.
This will save your wallet...

I don't know what others might suggest, but I'd try the kitchen area first. As long as you put some things in the tank where your goldfish can hide if he wants to then that I think would be the better option. Maybe some plants or a few rocks can be set up in a way to give it a "safe place".
Some fish (my Betta included) loooove it when people are around and come out to greet passers by. ...

IMO, pH down and similar products are a waste of money and do nothing but
create headaches like the one you're fighting now. Most commonly available
fish can acclimate to just about any pH in a reasonable range. I'd
recommend you ween your tank off of pH altering products and allow the fish
to adapt. We have 6.4 source water here and keep everything from wild
caught SA fish to Tang cichlids (...

The 55g hex is not a good tank for predators. Predators "typically" need long and wide tanks. In a 55g hex you could possibly do some convicts but definitely not a dempsey.

You need to know what kind of fish it is to see, if it is compatible with what you have. I have had a lot of fry, this past year. Mostly mollies. I leave them in the breeder trap until they are big enough to not fit in the mouth of my other fish or someone comes to take them. When they are really small, I feed them Hikari First Bites that can be purchased at most LFS and baby brine shrimp. Once...

The inch/gallon (which your dad's "rule" sounds similar to) is more or less bogus... because it depends on a LOT. Goldfish and common plecos, for example, are dirty fish and are heavy on the bioload. If you are willing to do the water changes and/or have a heavily planted tank and/or are running extra filtration, you can compensate for a heavier bioload (to some extent). (When doing so, however, ...

Filstar Media Questions Hi,
Does anyone have feedback on Filstar Super Activated Carbon Pouch or Filstar Bio-Chem Zorb Pouch?
My filters came with the carbon (I think) and suspect I put off changing it longer than I should. In the past 9 months the tests are fine and there is no tank odor so I have not worried too much.
I am thinking of moving to the zorb, and looking to see ...

#1 you PH is VERY High. Way too high. That could be 1 reason your plecos never move. There not feeling so good because of the PH. I go to a water machine in my town and fill 5 gallon jugs with that water and the ph from that is usually 6.2. I would start trying to get the PH down by doing regular water changes with the lower PH water if you can get it. A RO/DI unit is another option but that cost...
