DVD/MPEG2 is a better delivery codec than DV There seems to a bit of confusion here. DV is the uncondensed format from a video camera, and is the format that iMovie prefers to work with. MPEG2 is the standard delivery format of a DVD, both the ones you make as well as commercial DVds. It is what iDVD condenses the iMovie DV stream into. make multiple copies every 4 years Copies of what? If you want the 'hard copies' on a DVD to last...

The install app at first forced iDVD install as well -the first time I tried it. I ended up reinstalling iDVD also. Performing all the updates now. Thanks again. Now its to learning about the best way to share video via DVD. Best settings I mean. Man this stuff is complicated! PowerBook G4 ...

Hi start up disc space Does just referes to the hard disk that contain Mac OS and from which You start-up Your Mac. Even if You store Your movie on an external hard disk - the (often) internal boot hard disk can be too full. I set for a minimum of 25Gb free space and most things runns OK. (1 hour miniDV tape needs 13Gb to be stored and by editing it it can multiply easily meaning - movie editing is a very hard disk space demanding task.) as...

The reason that the iLife sound effects did not copy over with your iM6 is because they are not part of iM6. They are contained in iLife6. If you have your iLife6 disk, you should be able to copy them over. I believe that the iLife sound effects in iLife 09 have a different extension than those in iLife 6, and so they probably won't work if you were to copy those over to iM6. If you use the search function of this forum you will find...

DV is the uncondensed format from a video camera, and is the format that iMovie prefers to work with. DV25 (consumer format for iMovie) is 5 to 1 compression with 4:1:1 color sampling in NTSCland and still has a data rate of 13 gigs per hour which makes it hard to archive on DVD's. MPEG2 is the standard delivery format of a DVD, both the ones you make as well as commercial DVds. It is what iDVD condenses the iMovie DV stream into. make...

The disk to which you are importing your video is getting full. Consider getting an external drive for your imported video. It's not considered a good idea to overfill your start-up disk, many consider no more than 90% as a maximum.

Re email, you are limited by the file size that your server is able to send.
One way is to import your DV into an iMovie project. Then Share > Email the movie. That will send a compressed version. Small in size, but viewable. If your server is able to send very large sizes, or if it is a very small movie file size, you can File > Export your iMovie project to your desktop as ...

The sound volume in a clip can be increased to 150%. If that is not loud enough, you can extract the audio from the clip. The sound in the video clip will be muted and the extracted audio will be locked in the audio track below it. If you then raise the volume of the now-muted video clip, you can achieve twice the loudness of the original clip. You can then 'copy' the extracted audio ...

Pages of text? No, iMovie 6 cannot do that, and you would probably find that a page of text would be largely unreadable.
What I tend to do when wanting to introduce a paragraph or two of explanatory text or introduction to a movie, is to use rolling credits. The software to that with is, remarkably enough, called Rolling Credits, and is available from:

Hello, drtechnology,
Welcome to the discussions!
Is your iMovie long, with several audio clips? Or many video clips? It has been reported, and I have experienced this many times with complicated iMovies, or even with a simple one with lots of clips.
If you are finished with editing, you can do a 'share' as 'quicktime full quality' to get a quicktime version of this movie. Then, ...

iMovie 6 has never been available for download. It is part of the iLife 6 suite of application which either came bundled with your Mac (and is therefore on your install disks) or which you must have purchased.
