I have alot of legacy data, could this legacy data be a problem ??? A possibility that needs to be considered, yes. In which case I'd recommend running this handy utility (free download) from apple's web site prior to reinstalling iDvd: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/appdelete.html But first, did you also try opening iDvd from the new user account yet? OK. More information as a result of working with this some more. There are several disadvantages to following the steps in the KB articles listed in my earlier post. They are: 1) You will lose all Chapter information that you placed in the sequence while working in FCE/FCP. 2) You can't use the export as QT reference movie. This requires extra time (CPU and wall clock) and extra disk space to hold the large resulting files. 3) By doing...

Do not put any movies in the drop zone. Menus and drop zones are limited to 15 minutes total. If you must use a theme with a drop zone add a still photo to it. If you add an audio track to a menu set it's playing time to 60 seconds, not the full song. If you add the 4 episode files to the slideshow as in the screenshot you should be able to get up to 120 minutes (including menus) on the disk using the High Quality or Professional Quality...

Hi Mike from the Falls
Welcome to apple discussions. Sounds like there may be an indexing issue between your loaded i-apps. Do you turn off your mac every night? If so, try keeping it powered up over night which is when most macs perform this task by default. In the AM you should be able to locate all media files on your mac. But if not, try this:
Assuming you have launched...

Welcome to apple discussions. According to apple's help menu you can do this by creating a custom playlist and then using it within iDvd. But in practice ( personal choice only) I avoid iTunes completely due to DRM issues I've experienced in the past when playing a dvd. And that includes making a playlist within iTunes. Hence I prefer using QT Pro to meld audio tracks ...

Hi BuckBell
Welcome to apple discussions. Actually, you're on the correct iDvd forum since you are currently using iDvd version 7 (which is but one part of "iLife'09" as are iTunes, iMovie, GB, etc). The '09 on iLife refers to the year of software inception as a suite of applications, if I'm not mistaken.
I recommend following these steps for FCE => iDvd

Hi cmmstl
Welcome to apple discussions. Yes, this can and often will happen with larger slideshows / projects (like 160 separate images). First off, my suggestion is do not make your slideshow in excess of 99 slides if you wish to steer clear of potential audio issues like fades, pauses, repeats, and audio drops.
Secondly, keep in mind that when you add a transition it will ...

You might want to check this in the iDvd 5 Forum also but I don't think version five works with Snow Leopard. You'll have to either upgrade to the retail version of iDvd from iLife '09 software or downgrade the OS. Might be easier to address the former depending on which mac you are loading the software to....

Did you try a simple drag and drop of the plist for iDvd (and also FCP) to the trash yet? Then restart your mac and also repair permissions from apple's disc utility (applications > utilities > disc utility).

Hi Kryten602
Welcome to apple discussions. Sounds like you might have made what's called an Autostart movie within iDvd. The remedy is to go into map view in iDvd and select the very first (top) movie and hit the delete key. Now preview the dvd again.

Suggestion:
Delete all encoded assets from the Advanced Menu file. you'll need to reset chapter markers again either within iMovie or iDvd. Once this is completed, do not go back / alter the original iMovie project file whatsoever. Burn a disc image file to the desktop. Test it with apple's dvd player for proper playback and correct scene selections. Assuming it plays exactly as ...

iDvd isn't really intended / designed for recording your favorite TV programs. It's mainly aimed at consumers and prosumers looking to burn dvd's from home movies imported first into iMovie/FCP/FCE via firewire / minidv cameras / camcorders.

First check in map view for any warning signs or exclamation marks.
Question: Do you have at least 20 GB's of available hard drive space remaining on the boot volume (yes/no)? If so, have you tried making a disc image from the file menu?
Test playback with apple's dvd player app prior to burning. Assuming it plays as expected, and then burn at 4x to verbatim Dvd-R....

For the most part that's true when using a new mac. However it also depends on what the client uses to copy the Dvd. If it were me I'd simply use Toast and copy to a SL DVD-R using the Fit to Dvd option. (Most older set top dvd players can't read dual layer media so that's why I'd prefer making a copy to SL Verbatim Dvd-R at 4x).

Take the dvd's to a local store that sells dvd players and ask the salesperson to look at a variety of players. Hand him / her the dvd's to see which set top players work best. The finished iDvd should play well on most of these newer decks but if not just come on back.

Bengt, I appreciate your detailed reply. I too am having " multiplexing errors" 99% of the way into the burning process. I followed the directions to trash the preferences file, verify and repair disk and am still having these problems. Your suggestion to delete the program and reinstall poses another problem. All of the projects currently in iDVD will be gone right? This is lots of...

Hi Alf Joroensen
Welcome to apple discussions. The choice of music is up to you and so is the length of the audio track / tracks you wish to use as part of your slideshow. Some folks use iTunes to make a playlist which they then use in iDvd along with the Fit to Audio feature. However it is also possible to employ other apps like Garage Band, iMovie, or QT Pro to customize ...
