Hi there, Check System Profiler>Hardware>Diagnostics for clues. Have you booted off the Install Disk by holding the d key down at boot-up, (not the c key), and run the extended Apple HW Test? Some Install disks require holding the Option key at bootup to select the AHT. Some Macs came with separate AHT CDs. Might give a try with Applejack... http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596 After installing, reboot holding...

I have to agree, the most likely scenario is a bad file. As I mentioned earlier, I don't think there are any Mac utilities for attempting a repair. "Repair" is somewhat vague. If a file is bad it is missing data, and likely this data is critical to the running of the file. If you could repair this file (say, on a PC) you still might end up with a corrupt movie file which might refuse to play. Even if the movie plays it might...

Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible) Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely. Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the...

Hahah, that is BDAqua's answer for everything. Applejack is great, but you should know that typing AUTO will remove ALL cache files. You may want to try just typing auto in lower case first, and see if that fixes things. Onyx is another good (free) program to help maintain your Mac, especial at it's age. Be sure to backup your drive to at least one external drive (I recommend SuperDuper!) If those things don't help, you may...

Some of the odd issues from an upgrade to Tiger, from a previous Panther system can really do strange things. And parts of Panther may still be there, when it would be expected they would be trashed after the upgrade. A fully new installation of the Tiger system from scratch is a more certain fix and the resulting built is more stable. And there are less parts with fewer patches given the vintage Tiger is near obsolete. {Mine certainly was...

It claims that javascript is the culprit........... disable it and you'll be fine. Someone noted though that javascript is necessary so that is not an option for them. They claim it happened after upgrading the Safari software. I had upgraded that software awhile ago yet this only happened now. Hi Yes. This means in the startup disk Preferences Pane in System Preferences you've probably mistakenly set this to look for a NetBoot Service. Going into the Preference Pane and selecting your internal hard drive will get rid of the 'problem'. You could also zap the Parameter RAM on start-up to 'reset' everything back to normal as well. On reboot depress the command+alt+P+R keys ...

Usually jerky video is because the processor is too slow such as a G4, but you have an Intel processor which should be up to speed. Do you have a lot of other things open when trying to play video? 512 MB RAM strikes me as low by pretty much any modern standards. OSX is memory greedy and the "minimum" is very much a minimum. I have 1.5GB on my old G4 and that still isn't always ...
