Afraid I'm about tapped out of potentially-useful observations on this one, Roger. The one thing I can think of at this stage is to check with your IT folks just to see if it is normal (on the work PCs) for that URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol to be missing from filetypes. If it isn't, maybe they can fix that for you ... if it is, maybe they could be of some assistance with translating the troubleshooting tips for Firefox over to...

Safari can't open the file

I am running version 9 of Adobe Reader. I had version 8, but upgraded once this issue started occuring, hoping it would solve the problem. I had seen some other posts mentioning configuration issues with Adobe so I have gone to Preferences and set the "connection speed" to "LAN" and set it to "Display PDF in browser", but none of these fixed the issue. Reason for High disk/cpu Activity

Following that comment about AVG I did another test just now. I had Windows Explorer and Firefox opened and minimised to the system tray. I then opened Task Manager and Safari and minimised Safari to the system tray. Safari and AVG showed cpu while Safari opened up but after that I was just looking at the desktop and Task Manager. Safari was then quiet at 0% and all other process were 0% for two minutes, then Safari started using low cpu...

I have upgraded to Safari 4.0.4 and fixed the orphan tags and refreshed the links. 4.0.4 displayed the TWAIN images, but PDF still showed blank rectangles. Thanks for the links! Message was edited by: pc2000

Following Up - 15-Dec-2009 at 10:42:17 PM Eastern USA Time (Standard) Well... the disk activity has stopped it seems - at least in my case. I was launching Safari along with the windows XP Task manager together for the last couple of days. However after the initial disk activity, I have not seen any. I have used Safari for some incidental web browsing and also left it open and active while working on another system (just 2 ft away) to see if...

I just tried the site using the latest Chrome, and the Javascript request to the web server's PHP to send the email works fine. Something is very specific to Safari (for Windows) that doesn't allow authorization by Apache. Tim Daniels Dell

You could keep a copy of the Safari installer on external media and load it as needed but you can't run the application from it.

I have the same problem when trying to access certain secure sites. They don't work in Safari, Firefox, Opera, or Camino. I have VMFusion installed on my iMac with a Windows XP virtual machine. When trying the same sites in IE on the XP virtual machine, I can connect just fine. It seems that any browser running under the Mac OSX just doesn't work. I have read several posts on other...

Does anyone know why Apache objects to Safari's credentials and not to any of the other 3 browsers? Is this a failing of Safari, or is there some parameter somewhere that is not set correctly?
Just checking something a bit periperal to your primary concern, Tim. Have you had a chance to test this with Google Chrome? (Wondering here if there might be a WebKit issue afoot ... if so, ...

Interesting. When I try to view that page in IE 8 I get a warning that the ImageViewer application published by the Carreker corporation has an invalid digital certificate. (It was valid, but it has expired.) The page crashes my Safari version 4.0.4 altogether. (Fatal error in the Java plugin.)
Perhaps we're looking at an issue with the applet, rather than Safari?...

I don't know how, but my safari 4 can't save cookies from any website.
I can't see any covers from top sites page, they all blank.
Also can't save any history informations.
This may be a preference files issue rather than a program files issue, ziqi.

I also have the same problem with Safari 4.0(530.17) on Win XP Pro SP3.
After being left idle for some time, it goes crazy and saturates the computer with excessive HD access and CPU utilization.
Any suggestion for a solution to this problem will be appreciated.

Let's first try seeing if this is a systemwide problem, or if it is associated with a single user account, Sexy. (This isn't a cure in itself, but it will allow us to rule out some possibilities and narrow in other possibilities.)
Head into your User Accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights.
Now log out of your usual user account, and...

I'm not having issues with my pdf downloads at the moment (XP Pro SP3 box). so presumably this is something we've got a shot at fixing for you.
What is your default downloads location for Safari at the moment? To check, go "Edit > Preferences" (or click the wee coggy thing up at the top right of your window and select "Preferences"), and click "General". What do you have in your "...

I'll have a go at this one:
But then Safari is turned off, and i press link on program, Safari starts in a half of screen. Is there any option that Safari starts maximized?
Here's the technique I use.
Right-click on your Safari desktop shortcut, and select "Properties". In the "Shortcut" tab, in the "Run" field, select "Maximised".
Does that have any effect on the for you?...
