Just waiting to hear back, but I also sent an email to myself at another account, and the header in that email did not have the notification line. So I'll guess that it's fixed now. I've got the same problem on my Mac Pro. I sent a message this afternoon. The next message wouldn't send. All my outgoing SMTP servers are now "offline" except .mac
My wife's iMac has exactly the same problem. Reports elsewhere talk about changing the DNS servers and ports, but none of these have worked.
Can anyone explain the cause of this problem? A solution is urgently needed....

this works fine here. you should try resetting the AB database. but since you sync with mobileme you should reset your sync data first.
so, first turn off mobileme syncing and reset sync data as described here

Why don't you try quitting Mail, then go to Home/Library/Preferences and remove the com. apple.mail.plist file? Then try restarting Mail and setup your account(s) again to see if the problem continues.
If you are using IMAP mail accounts, be sure to go to Home/Library/Mail and remove your IMAP mailboxes to the Desktop before restarting Mail....

I have not seen any definitive article about Mail capacity. I have seen problem posts in the past that seem to be related to " very large" numbers of messages. The numbers you posted are well beyond anything that I have seen in the past.
I have my ISP mail provider to automatically delete messages after a month, so I have no frame of reference.
