The log file only mentioned the errors, but the scan itself said some files could not be fixed, so I guess others actually were repaired.... I tried the AMDS install again, with the same result as before If we count the full iTunes installs in with the standalone AMDS ones, I make that nine failed install attempts so far in this thread. I've been searching through Microsoft Answers forums and we're at the stage (seemingly...

Hi b noir - sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Well - iTunes is up and running - yeah . Back tracking. I followed your advice re: permissions for the Program files in C: Drive. Had a spot of bother as I have a number of user names/types to choose from. Noted that my user type was as admin. Anyway changed the user settings to admin for Program files and it went through the folders either changing or denying (ie explorer and symantic...

Try the following method. Before you do it might be wise to save copies of iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml which are in your iTunes fodler. It shouldn't be necessary but you never know.. == uninstall with cleanup == Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes) http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ Save the files on your PC....

THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU. That was a relatively easy fix. Not too sure why it happened but I am guessing that is way above my pay grade anyhow. Just waitin for Libary to update that could take a while being that there is over fifty gigs but whatever. The most important thing is itunes is working again. California here I come!!!!! I tried everything but could not take ownership of the folder. There was obviously some corruption or something had it locked. I was thinking about booting from a recovery CD to see if I could get at it. But first I just rebooted and immediately drilled down to the folder and YES!, I was able to remove the \itunes folder. I then retried the 64 bit install - AND IT WORKED. So, I'm sorted. Thanks for all your help. Have a virtual pint on...

Having the same problem, and this does not work for me. Everyone already has full control and it still complains about not having access to the key. Any other solutions out there so I can install iTunes?

I'm having a similar issue. I get this: 'iTunesHelper.Resources' is not a valid short file name. Won't let me uninstall OR install. I get the same error message in both instances. Very frustrating.
Sorry, I know this doesn't help you, but wanted to point out that others are getting similar errors.

Angel, when you've tried uninstalling Apple Mobile Device Support in the past, have you been getting any error messages? Or does it just fail to uninstall? (Or just seem to uninstall perfectly fine?)

Just adding that I have completely uninstalled iTunes and associated programs from the computer, with the exception of not being able to get rid of the iPod folder in the Windows directory. Message comes up saying I do not have permission to delete folder etc. Have tried again to install iTunes but will not let me as per my original post - just rolls back the install and says try again...

The install fails with the error: "installer has insufficient privileges to access the directory >c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Progra ms\itunes. The installation cannot continue". My user account is an admin account. I then retried the install by right-clicking and running the install with Admin Privileges. Same error results.

Keep getting message that installer can't remove old version of I-tunes should I uninstall myself or am I opening a can of worms I can't cover back up? And if I should uninstall what should I remove?

Sorry, I can't help you. I just want to say that I've been having the exact same problem! The obvious quick fix (at least, a quicker fix than individually finding every song in your iTunes library) would be to "erase" all of the songs from the iTunes library, take off the "copy songs to iTunes music folder when importing" option, then add back everything that's in your iTunes music ...
