Should I delete OS 9 ?

The two folders involved in Classic, the System9 folder: 157MB and the the Applications9 folder: 170MB. Together these contain less than 400MB. That really isn't much of a savings; and if the hard disk drive is getting close to 80% full, then you'd have to look at your user-saved content and not a few files used by the Classic OS9 parts. Of course, you can just drag the two items to trash and hope you don't have a need for them...

Should I delete OS 9 ?

Deleting classic (OS 9.x) & any associated applications won't create any problems, however, you won't free up much HD space. HD Free Space Your Mac needs adequate hard drive space to operate normally. How full can a drive be before it's too full? There is no hard and fast rule that says “X” amount or “%” of free drive space is needed. A low amount of RAM requires more drive space for Virtual Memory’s swap files....

help installing 9.2 onto iMac G4...
Published (2009-11-24 23:01:00)
Update: I almost got the Classic environment working. I tried using the disc as a system folder (in System Preferences > Classic) but it couldn't change the files on the disc so that didn't work. Then I tried copying the System folder from the disc to the HD, and it started starting up, but I kept on getting this error message within the Classic environment say something like, "The system files on the disc will only work...

Are the original owners. Not sure about it being called the Quicksilver model. But it is a Power Mac G4. It did come with all 4 restore disc's and two software install disc's, one being the Mac OS 9.2 and the Mac OS 10.0.4 both were pre-installed when we got it. Yes, the Mac OS X 10.4 is the full retail version (black with a silver X) G4   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Be sure the computer shipped with those discs, & before attempting again to install anything, use the disk tools in OS 9 and have then erase the whole hard disk drive, and then reformat it. Here's the spec sheet on you iMac. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/i mac_700_fp.html It says that OS 9.2.2 was preinstalled. Have you erased the hard drive or replaced it? Is the install disc the one that came with the iMac? The original install disc has a special version of OS 9.2.2. A regular retail OS 9.x installer can't be used. Also check this. Under ...

Hi, Philip - I booted into my working internal OS9 partition and copied it to the external firewire partition. If by that you mean you copied the internal OS 9 partition as a unit to the partition on the external drive, such as via drag and drop, then the copy of the internal partition would have been placed in a folder on the external partition, rather than being at root level...

In the System Preference> System group of icons, when you click on the icon "9 Classic" what does the Classic preferences panel suggest is going on? Do you have your Classic to run immediately on startup of OS X? Are there any items in your User account's startup panel to indicate you have somehow set Classic to start automatically on boot? In Activity Monitor (OS X ...
