Thank you for kindly responding, mikegrok. I did indeed do what you suggested here. Sadly Firefox still crashes. I cannot get help from the Firefox people, either. They don't answer everyone's questions there. I don't know what to do. I still need Firefox, even though I've had to use Safari just to stay online. If you can think of anything, or if anyone out there can suggest something, I'd sure appreciate any further...

also - i connected my digital camera straight to the monitor via USB and it doesn't display. I've never tried that before with my camera, but it seems like if the monitor is powered on, connecting it to the camera would cause the pictures stored in the camera to show up on the display. Etresoft and Micp, I plugged into the router, and then directly into the modem (Quest DSL) via ethernet, no change at all. The Macbook is headed to the Apple service guy. Consensus here is DNS, but I'm wary to mess with anything I don't understand. Thanks for your help. MacBook   Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Shared Folders

There is a folder for files shared among all users on the system in your hard drive, Users folder. if you want to share a folder, go to apple menu, system preferences, sharing (3rd row) and enable file sharing. If the computer to share it with is windows, make sure to enable smb file sharing. early 2008 17inch Macbook pro high res   Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I found that indeed it was my Brother Printer that was connected to the network showing up as a PC for some odd reason. If you have a printer connected to the network try disconnecting the printer and then restarting the computer. If it doesn't show up then it's probably the printer.

was it working before? because my home workgroup isn't working anymore. When you access your windows from ur mac, u have to enter the AD for windows. Maybe that's your problem? And make sure you have smb file sharing enabled on the mac by going into system preferences/file sharing/options and check smb. You should try and ping ur window machine using the network ultities to ...
