Need Help Capturing VHS from VCR
Published (2009-11-12 12:25:00)
Would a Canopus ADVC300 work? Yes. It will work exceptionally well. You need a FireWire cable between the Canopus and your Mac. FCP's Easy Set up and Sequence Setings should be DV (PAL or NTSC depending on the local standard). You need to have Capture Preset > Device Control settings on "Non-Controllable Device". The Canopus' analog inputs are RCA jacks or S-Video. The cable between it and your VCR depends on what...

The camera records to SD cards. No way are they going to be able to write ProRes or ProRes HQ on those things. The camera's native recording format is some variant of mp4. Creating a .mov may involve simply rewrapping the file. x 512k MacPlus with 40MB external SCSI drive Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

For DV you can use just about any DV camcorder as a VTR. Or you can use an actual VTR: http://www.google.com/products?client=opera&rls=en&q=pal%20dv%20vtr&sourceid=opera&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wf -DH Standards are wonderful ... and there are so many to choose from!

The JVC camera records the HDV format to SD cards. Ready to go QT files, but in the HDV format. The KiPro is the only device that attaches to a camera that records ProRes. No camera exists that records to the prores format internally. Shane MacPro Octo 3.0Ghz, 4GB RAM, ATI x1900XT, Matrox MXO2, Mac OS X (10.5.5) FCP 6.0.5, HD One, Dark Tower Raid - FCP forum elitist.

AVCHD Help ??
Published (2009-11-15 19:55:00)
SOLVED. I have recoded the AVCHD as DV Anamorphic and it came out wonderfully. At first looked like it was going to take forever to transcode this 1920x1080 material to the Xx480 DV SD codec but after a short bit it took off and coded everything just as if it was transcoding to ProRes422 HQ timewise. Also, when setting up the three camera multicam it ran without a hitch as if it really was DV material. Now I can get my things caught up, set...

Heya, If you have produced the DVD then you do not need to 'rip' it. You can use MPEG-Streamclip to convert the DVD file to an editable format that can be used in FCP. Check out this tutorial for info. Providing information of how to 'rip' a DVD is against the Apple Discussion Terms of Use : 2. Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software...

The HPX300 records full raster to AVCIntra, but with CMOS rolling shutter issues. It's a shoulder mount, sans on board mic, and requires p2 cards and a battery purchase. You can shoot around the shudder issues, and the cam produces startling good images. We loved it, but not the form factor, cost for accessories, and CMOS potential issues. But at $7800 street, you can't get much better a value. Also take a look at nanoFlash from...

No camera currently records ProRes directly. The AJA KiPro is the best alternative as it has a removable hard drive which can be plugged directly into a removable drive housing for the material to be transferred. Copy to a RAID 1 set up and you have your edit and back up versions ready to go. Very slick.

Let's start at the beginning.
What codec does your footage use?
Does your Easy Setup and Sequence Setting match that codec?
Is the footage codec even one of the options listed in Easy Setup?
Where is the footage located on your computer?
What location are render files being saved to?

You should.
tried de-interlace and shift fields filters.
Deinterlacing throws away half of the vertical resolution. What good can come of that?

That will do nothing to solve the issue. It will make it even worse.

Why is FCP doing this? Is there a way to avoid it?
It's because those clips don't have Reel Names . In that situation, Final Cut Pro sees the media as coming from a source that is not possible to recapture. It protects you against potential loss of media by saving all of it.
To assign a Reel Name, click a clip in the Browser then press command and 9 keys to bring up the Item ...

It's using a much higher data rate than the material currently is. Look in the inspector to see what the data rate actually is. You can always make a duplicate of an Apple preset and adjust the data rate to whatever works best for your media.

1) Is it possible to transfer the iMovie files into FCP and use a mix of these 2 codecs?
Yes, the AIC footage will combine perfectly well with the ProRes footage ... that said, if you have any reservations, then simply bring your remaining footage in using FCP's HDV - AIC Easy Setup as opposed to the HDV - ProRes setup .. that way you can cut entirely in AIC and avoid mixing the ...

Simply speeding up video won't give you a true time lapse 'look'.
For example, say the scene is a parking lot. 15-seconds of video will show a vehicle entering the lot and driving into a parking space. Speeding that video up will still show everything between the time the car entered the lot until it was parked.
True time lapse video would be a series of frames shot, say, every 5...

The first thing to do is stop touching the drive, don't try anything until you can make a copy to work from - based on what you said this is important data that you do not want to lose. I have some Weibetechs, for instance, that will do a clone but you can try something else to copy to a drive and work on that drive.
It could be the hard drive became damaged/corrupted and the files...

Heya,
HDV is GOP which means group of pictures...
Basically this means you capture one image that has all the pixel data for the entire image, this is referred to as an iFrame. What HDV does is it takes that data and on the next frame it looks at whatever data has changed from the last frame , the iFrame, to this new frame. So the next frame is written of only the changes ...

HI -
When you look at a clip in your viewer, prior to editing it to the timeline, does it appear to have the correct 3:2 Aspect?
Does the clip in the sequence look cropped to a square or does it look like it has been stretched taller to make the square shape?
Thanks

CatDV from Squarebox is designed for this. When I last used it, it supported DV only. But that was a number of years ago. They may have enlarged the options.
Filemaker Pro supports various media but you need to build the database.
For more complex operations, there is Final Cut Server.

MEMORY...different than STORAGE. It is referring to RAM...you are out of RAM for the given thing you are trying to do.
How much RAM do you have? What sort of media are you working with? How big is your project file?
