Or back back to an older version of the OS. With that software you should be using 10.4.10 or earlier and QuickTime 7.2 I think. 15" 2.4G MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I believe that you can import your video into the GarageBand Movie Track so that you can work out a musical score. It won't be automatically tied to the movie and when finished will need importing into FCE. 24" 2.8 GHz (Penryn) 4GB RAM iMac Mac OS X (10.6.2) Iomega 1TB USB 2.0 HD + LaCie Quadra 500GB HD

Regarding eSATA - you said your external HD has an eSATA port; you would just connect that to the eSATA port on an ExpressCard/34. That is NOT the SD Card slot. The ExpressCard/34 slot only comes on the 17" MBP. Regarding the FW bus - a FireWire Hub would do the 'splitting' you are referring to. However it is not a reliable solution if you are doing video. You would be better off daisy-chaining the camera and your existing hard...

If you still have the serial number from your FCE3 disc, then you could just buy the upgrade CD to FCE4 for a lower price. Macbook Aluminum 13'' (2.4GHz, 4GB RAM) Mac OS X (10.6.2) FCE 4.0.1 - WD External (250GB) - Canon VIXIA HG21 (AVCHD Camcorder)

In FCE, go to File->Import (Command i) and then navigate to the file you want to import. But first make sure the file is the right type/format to work in FCE natively.

You could try daisy-chaining the camera off the FW drive. (FW800 from MBP to drive, FW400 from drive to camera). Depending on your camera it may or may not work this way, but since you seem to have been successful so far, it ought to work with the newer MBP's even though there is only one FW800 port on the computer (the two FW400 ports on your old MBP were actually connected ...

Untitled precedes untitled1. The other names come from different captures. When the capture is initiated it wants to call the first clip untitled, if there's already a clip with that name it gives it a different name, untitled-1, then you might get an untitled-1-1.

Where did this media come from? It's completely non-standard. There's no such video frame size as 1280x800 and there is no such frame rate as 29.94 used in video production. Are you sure the frame rate is not 29.97fps?
FCE only works with standard video formats, standard definition DV, and HDV and AVCHD in standard frame resolutions and frame rates, either 29.97 or 25fps....

A long time ago this happened to me with iMovie, and I never figured out the answer. Some things to check, though:
Did you fully render the sequence? Mixdown the audio? Have you tried exporting as a self-contained movie, or if you are doing that, have you tried making the movie a reference file? How much space do you have left on your hard-drive? Are you using an external hard-...

Move the music to A3, A4, connect a1 & a2 with A1 & A2. Your video audio will then lay down on A1 & A2 however you need to use Overwrite (F10) rather than Replace Edit (F11).
