Airport Extreme Firmware 7.5?
Published (2009-11-26 07:30:00)
We are seeing numerous posts on the forum from users who are having difficulties with AirPort Utility 5.5. Apparently, this version is only available on disk with newer products that have shipped recently as Apple has not released an "official" version 5.5 via their website. Suggest you contact Apple for assistance on this. Please report back on your findings. MacBook Pro, iMac Mac OS X (10.6.2) Time Capsule,...

1. I 'could' hardwire the express to the AEBS (cable under the house). Does a wireless bridge extension really slow down that much using a wireless setup? Connecting the two base stations by Ethernet would be the best option for overall bandwidth performance. Extending an 802.11n AirPort with another would not provide the same performance. 2. I guess positioning of the Airport Extreme relative to position of Mac does make a difference. In my case, the Airport Extreme is 4 meters away (linear distance) from the new 27" iMac and 2 meters above ground level without physical barrier in between. You may want to monitor signal strength through Airport Utility 5.5 (550.29) while adjusting position of Airport Extreme (make sure SNMP protocol is allowed and common Community String has...

Hello again, OK, I've attempted to resent my router and identify if there is a MAC address configuration problem. The router is connecting to the wireless via the "Default" MAC address. I can see there is a manual option or another option where I click on a specific MAC address. Is changing this setting advisable to try and resolve the connection? Thanks. lsb iMac Mac OS X (10.3.x)

Airport is blocking IP adressses?

It's not going to work. As long as I stick with my current ISP with my current router, which is all I can do where I live, I need NAT. So I'll have to MAKE Modern Warfare 2 work properly with NAT like my other games do. I'm marking this topic solved because the next step in fixing my problem does not require any modification/troubleshooting with my Airport. System76 PanP5 Other OS

Welcome to the discussions!
I assume that you have your computer in close proximity to the AEBS. 5 GHz signals are absorbed by walls, ceilings and any obstructions much more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals, so if your computer is at the other end of the house, this may be your problem.
There have been numerous posts from users who are having difficulties with recent AirPort Extremes...

A "...USB 802.11n wireless card..." should since it would connect using 802.11n instead of 802.11g.

Just a hunch at this point. The symptoms you describe point to a possible double NAT error on your network. Can you clarify if you are using a DSL modem, and if so....what the manufacturer and model number would be?

It is highly unlikely that both your AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express are behaving exactly the same way in dropping the connection. And it is much more likely that the connection drop is occuring before the signal reaches either the Extreme or Express.
Would it be possible to try another modem to see if the drops continue? Unfortunately, you can ...

Configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) connected to the Internet to allow itself to be extended.
Place the 2nd AEBS in a location where it will get a good signal from the 1st AEBS. Then configure the 2nd AEBS to extend an existing wireless network.

Cable modems need a complete reset whenever the device that they are connected to changes. Power down your modem for at least 30 minutes and pull the internal battery if it has one. Power up again to see if that helps.
