As reported on TUAW, and MacRumor, they believe that the upcoming MacBooks will indeed be powered by NVIDIA chipsets. As stated, the move would also prepare Apple’s laptops for the release of Mac OS X Snow Leopard which will allow applications to utilize the more powerful graphics processing units. I will be purchasing a MacPro in the near future. Would I be better off opting for a ...

I've had the sudden urge to play some games lately. And my pc is currently not in fit condition to do so (i.e a bit broken). So I downloaded 'Urban Terror' (a free standalone mod of Quake III Arena) for OS X as I thought it would run acceptably on here. However, as soon as encounter other players in the map my framerate plummets to about 8, and trying to do anything in the game is ...

Can anyone provide any bits of knowledge or a stiff adult beverage? My thin aluminum keyboard on my now sainted Imac (I'm a switcher since 12/07, thank God) was getting a little dirty. I turned it upside down, spritzed some cleaner on it, continued to hold it upside down and wiped it off with a clean cloth. Plugged it back in, and it's dead as a duck. Well, no that's not entirely ...

Recently my cooling fan has been running at what sounds like full speed and never resumes a quiet speed. I have not used it any differently than I have since I bought it (in January) and have not really added anything to it in the way of downloads. Any suggestions???

OSX may fry your MacBook (Pro)! 'coreaudiod' apparently is a BSD process buried deep in root of OSX. You can see it in Activity Monitor. In some MacBooks and MacBook Pros coreaudiod gets unresponsive. That is not good for your sound! A deep system bug like this should be addressed poste haste by Apple! But it gets worse: In some of those MacBooks and MacBook Pros coreaudiod goes ...

When I played WoW, I used an extension to control iTunes from within the game. It worked much as the media keys do now, with one (great) additional feature: the name of the song you unpaused or skipped to appeared briefly on the screen, Quicksilver style. I'm loving the media keys but I really miss this feature. Has anyone heard of a plugin that accomplishes this? If not, does anyone know ...

Apple has agreed, without admitting fault, to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that power adapters sold with certain Power PC-based iBook and PowerBook notebooks were defective in that they could dangerously fray, sparks and prematurely fail to work. The settlement offers to provide a cash payment to customers who purchased certain model Apple PowerBook or iBook computers, had their ...

Hi All I recently purchased a T260HD and am trying to use it as an external monitor for my MacBook Pro and as a TV, etc. Only problem is, the picture just isn't looking that good. I've tried everything, but nothing seems to work. It's especially annoying for use as a second monitor since my computer CAN run it at its native res of 1920x1200, but the picture just looks awful. Fairly ...

I'm sure there are more than 16 people who have an opinion of glossy v matte. C'mon guys, let's hear which you prefer. Apple thinks we like glossy displays and I'm curious to see if everyone here agrees.

I don't know where I read about this, but I am getting ready to redo one of my systems. Currently it has 2 identical 250GB Hitachies, which use Super Duper every Sunday to backup. I tried doing a RAID 0 back in like 2004 on a system that had 4x60GB. I found out through trial and error and then later reading that you can't boot from a RAID in a Power Mac G4. But like I said earlier I don't ...

Sony Vaio JS190J (black) Editors' rating Excellent 8.2 out of 10 REVIEWVIDEOSPECSSHOP The good: Best deal on an all-in-one with a Blu-ray drive; best-in-class performance for its price; relatively free of software clutter. The bad: Its 20-inch screen is smaller than some of its competition; some redundant bundled applications; cheap mouse. The bottom line: By virtue of its ...
